Hi,

My sports massage lady came out to my pony last week and said she thinks his saddle is pinching slightly across his withers, she said it would be ok to do light work with him until saddler comes out, but my saddler is stuck in china at the mo! So who knows when he will be back.

Does anyone know of anything I could use to stop the pinching until he can get out?

It would of been ok to do a couple of days light ridding in but as I think its going to be weeks now maybe before he can get out I wont ride in it.

I thought about using another saddler but I really like the guy I use and trust him to do a good job!

I think I know what the answer is going to be and Im going to have to wait untill he can come out but just thought id post on the off chance

x

How much does it pinch?

you should be able to get 3 fingers between the pommel and wither top when aboard but at a push 2 will be ok and 2 fingers at the side of the wither. There should also be some shoulder clearance as you move your hand down the inside of the saddle from the pommel

Can you see daylight from front to back of it when seated? if so you should be ok until your fitter comes out to do light work.

Only a very tiny bit! I can just fit 3 fingers, shoulder clearance is fine and can see daylight when seated.
It just needs a little tweeking here and there

personally i'd ride bareback till saddler came back

i have a horse who has white hair scarring across her back where her pervious owner rode in a 'slightly wrong' saddle so i'm well aware of the damage saddles can do... nearly 2 years on and my horse can still have remembered pain and she still has 3 monthly back checks - it's an expensive mistake to rectify - so is it worth it? IMHO no :)

No offense....but even if its pinching a little bit- your horse will be uncomfortable. Would you want to go out walking/running etc in shoes that rubbed or pinched? Even a little bit?

Think of your horse......

Yes I agree, thats why havent rode in it since and my pony is very sensitive aswell!

O well lunging and bareback it is! :-)

Hopefully saddler will get a flight back soon!!!

Saddles....blimmin' nightmare...don't even get me started....I'm starting to think a cushion with stirrups would be best all round:p:D:D

And speaking of people stuck abroad.....I can't get hold of my EDT and I'm wondering if she's stranded somewhere:eek:

Arnt they just poppymoo!!!!

Now they are flying again today people should be back soon but people like my saddler and poss your EDT if shes away are going to have a nice backlog of clients to get through!!

Don't you just love mother nature sometimes!! lol
