The last time we attempted jumping we were eliminated in a 'confidence giving' 2ft jumping class, Louie's very delicate confidence was at rock bottom. He's the sort of pony that simply knocking a pole can knock him back a level so when I fell off the week before his nerves were shattered. After a quite jump at home to finish on a good note I decided to give him 4-5months off jumping, it's only something I want to do if he enjoys it so if he isn't it's not an issue I felt I had to push.
Cue getting back into jumping, we started with pole work which he found ridiculously exciting (lots of bucking, squealing and pinging) but I thought at least he has his enthusiasm back. We've been building up from there and today as our beach ride got cancelled (stupid sand yachts) we decided to go to my boss for a lesson, and this is the result:
I can see why people mistake him for a girl- far too pretty!
He didn't look at any of the spooky things. He was a bit overly keen to begin with but once he settled he jumped out of a lovely rhythm and just seemed happy and relaxed. He is quite scopey so it will be very easy to ruin his confidence again by putting the jumps up so we want to take it nice and steady to not overface him. I am so ridiculously proud of him and feeling very positive.
But to put a downer on the mood I got him in from the field to find he had a very swollen lip. What it looks like is a bee sting on the inside of his mouth, lots of antihistamines later he seems happier but keeping a close eye to make sure it doesn't turn serious. Hopefully he has a speedy recovery, we were meant to be stressaging on Tuesday and I really hope it doesn't get bad enough to warrant a vet visit. Lots of healing vibes needed for the poor boy, I can imagine its quite painful!
Also quick q, is it okay to compete sj in bandages? After a lot of playing around we found he is not happy in boots (have tried every type I can think of) and I'm not happy with nothing as he is so sensitive so bandages seem to be a good shout.
ETA: Missed out the best ones:
