Duke has a pink mouth and has been pinched by a loose ring snaffle- he has bit rings they make no odds.. can anyone recommend a bit to use. In case anyone's thinking it we do go bit less sometimes but our breaks tend to fail at times of excitement.

Thank you

Is the snaffle too small for him perhaps? Maybe go up a quarter or half inch and see if that helps. Also make sure it's not too high in his mouth - two wrinkles in the corner of each corner.

My lad has a pink mouth on one side and loose ring bits make him sore as well - he's in a D ring (Eldonian) now and I've had no problems, fortunately he goes slightly better in this than the loose ring anyway.
Agree that maybe check bit is the right size, but I expect it is and his pink skin is just sensitive!

My chinky, pink-mouthed cob sometimes has the same problem. Usually from schooling rather than hacking. Nothing major bit the odd sore. I've just ordered a sprenger kk ultra type 2 snaffle. It has mini-wings that make it a coss between a loosing and egg but

I find Horse Health gel bit guards very good. great success with a horse that was allergic to cheap stainless steel. His mouth went pink and then the skin fell off where the bit rings were. Myler bits no problem but they are more expensive so might be different stainless, there are about 50 grades of stainless steel apparently.

Hi we have just bought some Avacello gel bit guards from Ebay and they have been great...horse now going very happily and no pinching.

Using Bit Butter & Acavallo Gel Bit Guards (both available from Horse Health) stoped my mare's mouth from getting sore out hunting & XC, as she can pull like a tank. She has got a very sensitive mouth (& body, typical chestnut!) but is still very strong. Both the bit butter & gel bit guards have helped loads, and she doesn't get a sore mouth after hunting anymore.
