Pink nose in summer

Obviously horse! Should I use suncream if so what factor?

I use filtabac on my white nosed horses.

A piece of fabric sewn to the bottom of a fly mask to cover the nose, or a mask with shaded nose will work. Filtabac is good as the sunblock.

I have never had success with sun cream (stressed horse getting it on and simply rubbing it off again). Fly masks with a nose cover on works. Sultan however had the peak of a baseball cap sewn on to a headcollor as he removed fly masks!

I apply 24 hour waterproof factor 50 twice a day and it seems to work. Pony has to be bribed to have it done though

A handful of happy hoof is required as a bribe or I can't catch him. He HATES having his nose creamed. If he sees the bottle he will be gone.

When i had a pink noser, I used Nivea kids waterproof suncream, think it was factor 50. I applied each morning and it did the job.

Most important to get them used to sunblock before it gets sunny so it doesn't hurt as they will fight more if you end up having to apply to sunburn. Like my mum and me as a kid ?

Sunblock came off my girl's nose within moments. I used a Equilibrium Field Relief muzzle protector, and it was top notch - lasted all summer, no issues whatsoever, no sunburn. Highly recommend.

Depends if they have shelter or shade. My cob is pink skinned and I expected to have to sun cream his muzzle, but I've had two summers with him and he really hasn't needed it! I do have shaded areas in the field and a field shelter, though.

He does have areas under trees in his field but he's an idiot and I feel like he won't stand under them!

I use childrens factor 50 and one year even managed to have an insect repellent one too. I've never had serious problems with horses not liking having it on or them rubbing it off too quickly.

Do they ever try and lick it off your hands?

Another vote for filtabac. You can get away with putting it on every couple of days, and it helps any existing sun sores heal too.

I don't think I've ever had one interested enough in it to try. They enjoy having it massaged into their nose once they'd got over having it dolloped on to it.

<--- that's the lad and as you can see, he has a white snozzle and very pink nostrils (and lips). Has a full face mask, have tried every suncream under the, well, sun .... and nothing I've found so far beats the protection, stickability (and as Hey Mich says) healing power of Filtabac.

Another vote for filtabac. Not the cheapest but a little goes a long way and it stays on.

I used to to use kids high factor suncream. As someone else said the key is to start using it soon enough so your not putting it on sore skin. I haven't needed it since spraying off all our buttercups though.

Filtabac - it doesn't rub off, can just be applied every couple of days and is healing if they do get burnt. Amazing stuff.

Mine has a Cashell UV flymask. It’s clearly very effective, his nose is never burnt.
