Pink powder or similar?

My TB ex racer has loose droppings and is quite gassy but is in very good condition. I am going to feed him a supplement to try and sort out this issue.
However i dont want him to have something whihc will put more condition on. He is currently not fed any hard feed, but will start to be fed unmollassed alfa a with this supplement and a calmer.
Can anyone reccommend anything for him?

my Tb is on Naf's Pink powder, unmollassed alfalfa and unmollassed beet. If they have too much magnesium in the diet their droppings become loose. The body expels the excess this way. Check your calmer as these are mainly magnesium based and so it could be that he is getting over the optimum level.

My two tb's have the same prob this time every year and I started them on pink powder about 2 months ago - it's brilliant stuff. Both their tummies have stopped gurgling and their droppings are back to normal. It's also a source of selenium which is quite scarce in the soils where I am so is good for that too! It's brill and not expensive to run either x

Oh and the year before I used protexin from the vet ( in a syringe for 8 days ) and that was very good too. But wanted something more natural and long term this time. X

Thanks for that, he is on global herbs TB calmer so doesnt have any magnesium in it. I think pink powder is good idea then. Has it not put extra weight on them?

Nope absolutely not. The last thing mine need is extra weight! They seem to really like the taste of it too!! X

haha mine too...amazingly he does actually live on fresh air even in winter and needs less rugs than me TBxID! madness

Is ridiculous, I used to wrap the pair of them up in cotton wool and wait on them hand and foot, but got the chance of turning them out 24/7/365 a couple of years ago and haven't looked back! they both grow wooly mammoth coats and live on 1 feed per day plus adlib haylage and a field shelter. And still manage to keep bellies on them. If it weren't for the fact I have footage of them racing I would think they were native!!!! Lol

Haha wilkinson they sound just like my boy! Although he comes in in winter last moment but looking for our own land so if get befor ethis one he wil be out with field shelter. he is fine aslong as lots of haylage...mind you all he does is eat except when being worked haha which is having to be increased as all this rain is making lots of grass!!

I have my mare on Pink powder (just started her on it last week) as she doesnt get the recommended amount of hard feed, so we'll see how that goes. But there are a few liveries with horses with loose droppings and they use Protexin gut balancer. One of the horses is stabled beside me and it has made a huge difference to him.
