Has anybody used Pink Powder when theyve moved their horses to a new yard to help deal with the changing of yard and stress etc?

If so, did you start feeding it before the move, eg. a few days before, or the night before?

Also, did you feed at the loading dose (3/4 scoops/day) or the maintenance dose (2 scoops/day) until the tub was used up?

Thanks.

I'm no expert but I've always thought that Pink Powder was more a general vitamin and mineral supplement and doesn't really help a horse cope with stress. Feeding a supplement containing magnesium is best to help to keep horses calm.

I use pink poweder - but I don't think it helps with stress as such. Its a feed balencer really.

Were you thinking of a calmer of some sort?

Pink powder has some vits and mins but the main ing is saccharomyces cerevisiae - which is the posh name for brewer's yeast.

One of brewers yeast's actions is to assist gut function and make the horse absorb nutrients better and feel overall healthier.

I think the pink powder also contains magnesium - which DOES have an affect on behaviour as magnesium defeciency often manifests itself as aggitation.

900g Pink Powder costs £15-ish.

900g Brewers yeast can be bought for approx £5. 900g of Cal mag can be bought for £3.

Bit of a mark up by Naf there!

Thanks for your comments.

I'm not looking for a calmer, as such. Just something to help settle their digestive systems.

Ive heard somewhere, that digestive imbalances can result from stress, and im thinking:colic.

Also, they are being wormed on arrival at the new yard, and i know of people who give their horses a course of pink powder to help re-colonise the good bacteria in their gut after worming.

Im just a worrier i guess!

Oberon, i didnt realise brewers yeast was Saccromyces.c!! I'll remember that in future-thanks for that!

I think your plan is very sensible.

I am very scepticle of NAF supplements as they tend to be based on Cal Mag and brewers yeast (both very cheap to buy) in various different packaging with an enormous mark up.

I always google their ingredients to get to the bottom of what they actually are in English then buy them for half the price elsewhere.

My horse suffered a bout of spasmodic colic going from winter grazing to summer grazing, my vet advised me to give him a probiotic yogurt, 2 tbsp a day to aid gut function, i now give him yeo valley every other day, he's fine with it, and since feeding this have heard that loads of people use yogurt, certainly a cheaper alternative.
