A horse of mine had gas colic a few weeks ago but recovered ok, He has also had really runny droppings/diarrhoea for the last few days. Temperature is fine, and he's eating / drinking happily. Vet has suggested i put him on a probiotic supplement to really help him get over whatever this is he's struggling with.

He is on topspec balancer at the moment, but that's obviously not doing what it should for him. I called NAF and they have suggested i put him on Pink Powder and take him off Topspec, but obviously they will promote their own products!

Any suggestions / experiences would be great!

Thanks

love pink powder, have mine on it always, with a booster dose if they are stressed out (competing, moving yard or a bit under the weather).

Cant comment on topspec but I have mine on Pink Powder to stop him getting runny. Its not expensive and does the trick. If he runs out then I can see the results in about 2 days - not great with a gray!

Pink powder is fab but I can't keep my tb on it because she blows her brains on it. She does get a dose after an event / hunting and it is a great pick-me-up. Wouldn't hesitate to use it in your situation

I've used both TopSpec & PP on regular occasions & am now back to PP as I think it works wonders & is slightly cheaper. The only thing is of you are using TopSpec for thinks like hoof quality etc then I don't think you will get this from the PP.

Feedmark do BioPro if you are thinking of adding an extra digestive supplement to your TopSpec. I think it's a brilliant product so it's another to add to your list of possibilities!

PM smartiebean09 she will be able to help you with this or put it in stable yard she will see it.

Pink Powder all the way!

My 26 year old pony had severe colic (rotation of colon). She has been on pink powder and "touch wood" we have had no problems what so ever!

My pony also scoured for most of the 8 years I had her due to her nervous disposition. Pink powder also contains magnesium which is deficient in UK soils and so pp also resolved this issue.

Since I have been using it, 2 horses on the yard have also followed suit. One of them being a stressy TB prone to stressing off weight. Since being on PP, he has gained weight and settled down and is now able to be stabled too.

Its a good, cheap all round balancer with fantastic effects on the gut and I would highly recommend this to anyone! :)

I've used Pink Powder in the past for horses as a "pick me up" when they've been poorly/on lots of antibiotics or for scouring etc, and I started using it again last year instead of their normal vit/min supplement, when one of my horses who is v tricky to manage showed stressy/hissy fit symptoms (but not actual colic) since then I've kept him on it and I also put my other boy on it, and they just both look really good on it. My horse that gets stressed out easily is so much more relaxed and easy to ride when he's on the pink powder as well. I swear by it now!

In actual fact you've just reminded me as I have to order another tub of it as nearly run out!....

Another probiotic I've used on the horses that is excellent is Protexin Bio Premium, its very good but more expensive.

Thanks everyone, he looks fab and is going really well under saddle on the Topspec, but it's obviously not agreeing with his digestive system. So might give pink powder a try.

Thanks again :-)
