Hi there
I'm thinking of buying Pink Powder to give my 29 year old thoroughbred a boost. He is on Rowan and Barbery mash, full daily dose and haylage. He also has access to grass.
He is still a bit ribby. I can't realistically feed him any more than he gets so would Pink Powder help?

Unless you know for a fact that it's a gut biome issue causing the ribbiness, I don't understand why you'd go for Pink Powder instead of trying him with something more fattening like linseed or copra.

Agreed, I'd probably go with linseed if you're needing a bit of weight gain. Although if it's similar where you are to here, our spring grass hasn't really kicked in properly yet but is just starting to so in a couple of weeks it should/ could give him the boost he needs.

I contacted Rowan and Barbery for advice and they didn't advise adding anything to the mash but I do soak it with sugar beet water.
Pink Powder just a thought. / another option, desperation!!

Basically with no rain the grass hasn’t developed the sugars or growth rate it should have, not helped by quite cool nights. I would just been patient and add some oil to the feed as an extra.

I use a different NAF product, Thrive. It slows the gut but also makes them eat like there's no tomorrow! You can order it direct online as most tack shops don't stock it.

My old vet said to be careful with it though as he'd seen several put so much weight on so quickly, they got lami.

Once on it, mine tucked into stacks of hay, in quantities they wouldn't have been interested in before. I agree that, right now, they need supplementary forage as there isn't enough grass in most fields.

If your lad can tolerate alfalfa, perhaps try something like Protexin Gut Balancer to add to his mash - that worked wonders for a friend of mine who's horse needed a pick me up as it was ribby. She did also feed micronised linseed and gave him extra portions of feed, spread out throughout the day to help with his weight gain x
