Blue came in last night covered in midges his whole sheath area was covered with midges you couldn't see any skin at all on the sheath area and the tops of his legs were covered,I have not
seen so many midges on a horse before. He was so relieved when I washed them off with water the relief on his face.i put sudocrem on as he had been bitten really badley is there anything else I can do to stop these horrible creatures attacking that area? Thanks

I've got no real help to give but I just wanted you to know you're not alone - ours are getting really attacked in that area and our little companion pony has ended up really swollen as a result :( Have given everything a really good clean and dosed with fly spray/neem and if it's no better in a couple of days we'll be ringing the vet.

i've never known them get attacked so much either.

I find Sudocreme slathered one keeps them away. I don't think it repels them as such as they still fly around, it's as if they know they will get stuck to the creme and don't land.
I get through a medium pot a week in the height of summer.

I also put it in their ears and it keeps those horrible inner ear blood suckers away.

Sudocrem soothes and protects the pink skin. Midges avoid greasy places because they get stuck. Sudocrem, as well as giving relief also stays on longer than most creams.

Udder cream, sudocreme anything like that

Avoid stuff with citonella as it may really irritate the skin

We find coopers is the only thing that repells but does not inflame my pink pony's skin.

Ticks from the deer are the problem for us at the moment - big fat bitey ******s they are too.

I use Nettex Stop Itch cream for sensitive areas, seems to keep the midges away.
Then Deosect fly repellent for the rest of their body.
