One of the boys was trimmed on monday. Since tuesday we noticed we could see pinkish/purple hues in the horn of his white hooves. I've not come across this before. Is this normal- ie is it just due to the pale, horn which is also damp showing the blood flow from inside the foot- or is it bleeding within the hoof or just natural pigmentation. He has not had this colouring in his feet before. Appears to be sound.

He never mentioned it- in fact he said the feet were great and that I had nothing to worry about- I would feel a little stupid ringing him up to ask about them.

I ask stupid questions all the time 'cos I'm a newbie - but I'd rather ask and look silly than get something wrong. Go for it and ask your farrier - he won't see you blush down the phone

quite common on white feet. if your farrier commented on how good his feet were i doubt you have cause to worry. could be bruising but by the time it gets to 'show' its ussually quite old.

Nothing to feel stupid about. He should be happy to talk to you if you have a question or concern, youre a paying customer!

There are lots of causes but i would speak to your farrier about your specific horse. It is likely to be nothing to worry about but if it were me i would mention it.

thanks folks- will call him on Monday (don't want to disturb his Sunday eve) its just that I first asked him to trim the two boys after posting on here and telling him one of them had feet that were awful and when he arrived other than being in need of a trim he said they were great healthy feet- for both of the boys. These are pics taken over weekend- first is of said hoof and the second is to show that our field isn't as muddy as the first mucky foot picture makes out (his wierd stance as he was just about to itch his side- bless- but the gateway is horrific very deep mud
