Pipe to cover electric rope and go under ground

Can anyone recommend what to use to cover over electric rope that we want to put in underneath a gateway?

Also have some hedges we are thinking we could thread this through so we don’t have to fence them off - any help appreciated

Thanks Meleeka how would you connect that back up to the electric rope?

plastic hose should be easy enough to find but I worried it wouldn’t last long

I think you’d need lead out cable encased in blue water pipe to go underneath gateways. You rejoin the lead out cable to the rope on either side of the gate. Rather distant photo, sorry, can get a closer one later.

Thank you that’s really useful to see, i might call one of the electric fencing companies as I’m assuming there is something you connect the cable to that then connects to the fencing

I use hosepipe and just tie the hose to the gate and undo the fence handle when opening the gate. Avoids the need to dig across a gateway or dig it up if it perishes.

Blue water pipe would last longer in the ground than hose pipe and use insulated wire rather than rope for the bit in the hose piple. All cheap and cheerful. Digging up your gateway will be the hardest bit!

Bog standard crocodile clips or these are screwed together

I’ve got those for attaching tape, I think the insulated cable would potentially slip out of those. Thanks though

No worries you can strip off a good bit more of the plastic to expose more wire then wrap the wire around the connector before screwing it - then it wouldn't come out. A bit of electrical tape over the top and it'd be really robust.

Or there are ones with a heart shaped loop you could tie it to.

I just wrap it round the tape. It’s quite stiff so stays where you wind it. I have also got some connectors as above which have lasted well (the rope just sits in the flat but and the lead out cable goes in the end where the hole is.)
