What potential causes are there for pitting oedema in 1 hind leg? Initially fetlock to hock swollen, but this reduced to “pooling” from fetlock up (tear drop shape). Exercise does not change swelling, nor does it increase in stable. No particular heat. No pain on palpation, but lame in trot (although this was present prior to the swelling). It (the swelling) appeared over night after strange turn out goings on (broken bottom fence rail and seen to be charging around) in an arena 20x60. (Front leg was also partially swollen, but swelling now gone). No broken skin, only a line of bent hairs from mid back of tendon to out side of hock.
Vet coming later, but was just interested in possible causes.

Hi, great that the vet is coming, what you describe (particularly that the odema stays down when you press it) is likely to be Lymphangitis which needs urgent medical attention.
Good luck.

what would have caused this? Wouldn't there be heat with this? I also picture lymphangitis for the whole leg to swell, or at least continous from fetlock to hock. Is this wrong?
