i'm sorry but i have to pay tribute to a rug...:o

we bought lucy when she was 7 and now she is 22. around the time we bought her we also bought her a lightweight nz rug by horsewear...it is simple in design none of these tri-vents or "anti-slip" or seamless which every single rug on offer today claim to have but it still fits lucy perfectly, it has never rubbed or ripped or slipped and unlike a lot of lw "waterproofs" she is completely dry unedrneath no matter how hard it rains..yet it cost less than half the price of any semi-decent rug i can buy today but only last one season. this rug has lasted 15 years and it is still soldiering on

i conclude by saying to all those big rug companies please focus on quality rather than quantity

pointless but it is a very deserving rug;)

Can we have a photo of this old campaigner? :)

The rugs that have linings (or "linings") that make your horse's coat shiny make me chuckle... I can't take them seriously.

neither but i must admit i have bought one but only because it was half price and i needed a new stable rug so it was cheaper to buy it...i highly doubt it will polish her coat

Oh god I hate these rugs!!!! Give me a cotton lined rug any day...best rug I have ever used was under 20 pounds and had a cotton lining, only died after another horse tore it to shreds!

I have a very old blue Masta deep canvas rug lined with string vest material and only has leg straps, fab rug, strong, waterproof and self righting if they roll. So wish I could get another but as Masta rep told me they are made abroad and are bound by available fabrics every year hence change of designs etc.

I don't know what they are? but I've been given an old canvas style rug in a 5'6 that wont fit mine that I can't seem to rehome, would that be any good? its in perfect condition, stored well for about 20yrs haha

Just don't make anything like they used to.

I really think that today companies realise that if items (rugs, hoovers whatever) last too well then their sales are going to drop dramatically. Not good for profits if people aren't having to replace items after a couple of years.. It's not that they can't make things to last but that it makes no sense to them to do so. That's the bottom line.:(

Why do you think that they keep coming out with "new" and "innovative" designs, colours, polkadots, whatever? And enough fill weights that everyone seems to need a complete wardrobe for Spring/Summer/Winter like London Fashion Week? Because us girlies want to dress our ponies like Barbies, and that sells rugs and means it's a very profitable business.

Fab tribute to a rug, I came across a big old green canvas rug with a nice sheepskin bit where it sits on the neck that I bought at a horse sale in 2000 I think, really basic but did the job..the only sign of wear is caked in mud and rusty buckles :)

Masta rugs were absolutely brilliant when they were still a private company in West Yorkshire. Then they got bought out by Stylo I believe and the quality went down. I've never understood why more lightweights aren't made with a mesh lining. They absorb less water on a wet or sweaty horse, create an airpocket so increase drying rates and are way quicker to scrub down on the floor and get dried. A friend had one for her old pony that was mesh lined and it was from Decathlon. Fantastic value and it had things I'd never seen before on a turnout such as a roll-away neck. It was triple stitched too. Shame metric sizes didn't fit my girl.

A school pony on my yard has a mesh lined rug. It's a BUCAS one bought recently :) it's great.

The good old new zealand rug. kept horse dry(re proof it when needed. so easy splashit everywhere. fun memories ) stood test time of fences bites and rough and tumble. shove a blanket under if really really really needed(horses were tougher 30 years ago :)) but year in year out that same rug came out .sitting pondering good old days. 1 out rug 1 in rug(if you were posh) :)

We have two old Rambo 'Wug's' - half neck, two clips onto a one ring chest buckle.
apart from the odd circingle coming off in over exuberant rolling (which were easily re-attached) these rugs must be 14yrs old and still do such a great job - perfect medium weights!
Now they cost around £130 and are much thicker in warmth (not very useful for us) they also have a new 'fitting system' that just doesnt fit ours the same! we would never pay so much! (I say we, Mum and I)
Wish we could go back in time and buy couple more for the newbie horses!
