We're off to Area 22 RC dressage on Saturday, and I'm agonising over the spooky pony's plaits...shall we go lattice or running plait?? I'm leaning towards lattice at the moment...not sure...

Here's running (from January; excuse the furriness!):

And here's lattice:

I agree with clairel as I'm so used to seeing the little kids at my riding school doing lattices on their ponies for day courses so to me, the running plait looks more professional and grown up!
I usually stick to bun plaits on lighter breeds with less mane or loose mane/running plait on native breeds and horses with longer manes for dressage.
Added bonus of it all being out of the way of your hands as well - no chance of it getting caught in part of the lattice

The lattice plait looks really pretty but for showing/dressage etc I would use the running plait as it looks more professional and so will give a better impression. Also it might distract from the ponys neck and outline?

ooops i voted for lattice because is looks nice & tends to stay in better & longer for the whole day.

Is there any way you can fashion these chunky rosette plaits out of a longer mane? They look very smart.

.....However, if you have a lattice plait, I'll definitely recognise you.!!!!! We'll be there too

keep an eye out for a stripy dun

Running plait - looks much smarter for stressage!!

I do a running plait on my mare - plait her forelock and 'fold' it up as short as possible - and running plait the mane. That way you get to see her lovely (big!) neck and she looks all grown up!!

If you need to keep it a bit tidier comb through some hair gel (try to find a brylcream sort) at the root end - as I find thats where Incas can get a bit scruffy.

Good luck Spooky!!

Thanks Slinky!

The voting is still pretty close...although I'm leaning towards running now...although it's true that lattice stays in better, running is easy enough to redo between classes if necessary. Although I don't know about showing off his neck: he'll probably be high as a kite and craning around like a deranged giraffe!

Baileyhoss, what classes are you doing? We're doing P13 and N DTM...look out for the little round bay shooting about in a frenzy!

In this heat, far too much.

p13 team, N27 ind, rct8 team.... and our stressage can be a total hit or a miss (normally a miss)

Then novice sj and style sj on the Sunday.

It'll be all good fun though.

you doing DTM?.... good effort!!. I love watching that!.

I am frantically hoping my show jacket comes in time. I ordered a little lightweight black jacket as I cant' bear the thought of donning my woollen hacking jacket again after melting to death last weekend.

Wow, sounds like a long day for you! Any idea when we finally get our times??

Good luck with the jacket! I'm the one in dark brown tweed, so I'll be melting for sure!
