Plait in tail?

Thank you :) There are signs up about CCTV so that is good, but I definitely like both the pun and the idea of the Neighborhood watch signs ;) I'm also going to get her freeze marked as a visual deterrant, she has a microchip but that's not obvious to peeople looking to steal. We had all the boys head collars stolen from the gate near the road the other day so I think something is definitely going on. It's almost as if they start off small to see what they can get away with. I think making security really obvious is the next step, plus reporting to the polic if things like this continue.

Ignore the rude people OP. Unfortunately it's something you cannot avoid in the horsey world.

If you are worried about the horses could you put a sign on the gate or along the fencing maybe that says CCTV in operation or Neighborhood watch in operation (no pun intended :p )? Or some other kind of deterrent? I too would be worried so don't feel bad for asking the question. x

Ah thank you. We have problems around Appleby time, and he's been know to be hidden in my YO's garden. I don't care what anyone says, anyone who can be bothered to climb into a field and plait a horse's mane or tail has to be a bit weird. Shy can get tangles, but I know the difference between these and a plait. x

Yes- even if I was able to completely rule out the risk of theft, I would want to know what else this mystery person was doing with my horse- are they just plaiting it, are they hopping on for a free ride etc?

I have to say, I wouldn't leave the headcollars on the gate next to a road, surely that is just making things much easier for potential theives?
I assume you do lock the field gate?

I would be just as worried as you if I found a precise plait.

I know, I felt a bit violated about it - even if it's not theft why are they going on to private land and messing around with a horse that doesn't belong to them? I must admit if they were after a ride after that they could kiss goodbye to any chance of it ;)

No I wouldn't either, however it's quite a big livery yard and some people just can't be bothered to take their headcollars back to the stables, but then again that's their loss I guess :) The gate is locked, although I'm sure if people are going to come to take horses they are more than capable of cutting through fences etc. It's just so worrying.

It might be worth asking the others on the yard/getting the YO to ask them to stop leaving the headcollars out by the field. If they're leaving them on a gate next to a road then they might come back one day and find some light fingered person has rehomed them all, which would be annoying!
