Got my first BSJA in a few years next week at Bicester and Finmere show, my horses mane is quite thin and tends to fly all over the place when it's short and look scruffy, would I look out of place plaiting it? I'll already be wearing my tweed jacket, looking like an eventer so I can't look anymore out of place with a few plaits? x

Not really, but then I wouldn't overly worry about looking scruffy at BSJA

If you wear a 5 point fluffy breastplate and plait up, it will be obvious that you're an eventer and everybody will know how you are obsessed with plaiting

It's more like a windswept look lol I've tried geling it down before I go in but it still goes wild, he's only got a silly short TB mane but I can't stand him looking scruffy! I don't have a plaiting obsession *honest*...yet! But now he's not eventing anymore i'll miss plaiting! There can't be such a thing as looking to smart

P.s I don't have the 5 point fluffy breastplate, too expensive! But he does wear a normal elasticated breastplate

You see, I quite like the fluffy sticky up mane look, its the one I go for

I actually think my horse jumps better when not plaited, probably rubbish, but just what I think

i plait simply because i quite like it haha and i like to make an effort. my mares mane is thick and fluffy so left, it looks VERY out of place!

you wont look out of place...i went through a stage of paiting for bsja...but now i cant be bothered unless its a championship or something, but no i would plait if you want - but equally it really oesnt matter about a sticky up mane at bsja

I will probably plait for some BSJA.... but at the moment need the mane to grab hold of

Have seen horses plaited for BSJA before, its not common but not unheard of

Looks like I'll be plaiting then! Who cares if we look a little out of place, atleast we'll be smart

mbequestrian are you going to B&F? Please don't say that about the weather, it's supposed to be rainy all this week

Hope the grounds ok!?

i've plaited for BSJA before (or actually more accurately i've left in plaits from dressage the day before) i quite often wear my tweed too and get told off by SJer friends for "looking like a bloody eventer"- to which i point out that i am not aiming to look like a showjumper!

I always plait mine for BSJA unless I've had to work in the morning and I'm meeting the horse at the show! To be fair he doesn't have a showjumper mane though - it's frizzy and sticks up and looks rubbish. I don't do tails though, only the racehorses get their tails plaited!

My eventer daughter plaits up for BSJA, wears a tweed jacket, HS1 hat (its safe for goodness sake) and a five point breastplate. She is proud to look like an eventer.

At her last BSJA outing, I was told by a BSJA mum whom I was standing to 'You can tell that young lady is not a SJ rider' . Plus 'I watched the SJ at Badminton and cringed, none of them know how to sj. At the risk of being shot down in flames by all those SJ mummies out there - she aint a showjumper, she is an eventer, and imo far superior.

i have an obsession with plaiting

if me and the geegee go out were plaited, but you see lots of people that arnt plaited - guess its just prefferance, pacience and time and stress levels! haha
