Ok so ive bitten the bullet and entered some more dressage tests at Oldencraig this week, scary lol. Im doing (unaffiliated) P17 and N21.

As its a posh venue, do i need to plait or can i still get away without it?? Also any tips on the tests..i see P17 is in a long school with extra letters etc, how do you go about practicing for that?? x

Unaffiliated maybe not, but i think you will have found a lot of people that go there who will of at least made the effort of plaiting...
Tips on tests..hmm lets see, if you haven't got long arenas at home then you may be a bit stuck, it shouldn't make too much of a difference i think its just about keeping the horses attention on you whilst you go down the long side.
I find the larger arenas better because the turns are not so tight..

I would plait even when going unaffilliated. P17 is quite a nice test. If you haven't got a long arena to practice in, you could practice the movements from the test individually, ie the half circles, cantering over the centre line, accuracy etc as the arena will be longer on the day you will find that you will have more time to prepare for each movement. gd luck!

Oh posh

I was competing there two weeks ago, we plaited but loads didn't and it is 'posh' in a 'we have all the facilities way' but still has DREADFUL parking and they play music through the PA system which put me RIGHT OFF!!

They also have many eastern eurpoean staff with less than fantastic English

, one of whom watched me attempting to reverse my trailer for ten minuted before coming up to tell me I wasn't allowed to park where I was trying to!

I vowed never to return and rode an awful (I thought) test as got all stressed(our first ever pre-lim) and came 8th out of 25 and got an odd looking black rosette -so we might go back. It's a good place to put pressure on yourself if you want to affiliate later and get a feel for it.

p.s NO white tapes for me - we actually ended up with purple bands as couldn't find the needle and had to borrow them from YOs 8 year old daughter!
