Plaiting - how long does it take you?

Depends totally on the horse! Lizzie: 15mins Misty: 45mins

Half an hour on average with bands, depending on how many & whether pesky horse keeps her neck still & dosen't get totally over excited about going to a party!

Depends entirely on the horse and also how cold it is - my hands freeze as I plait, so I really struggle in cold weather! Also, I've had CTD on both hands and plaiting is the only thing that it still affects. Plaiting a fidgeting yearling (Hector) can take as little as 15mins, but can also take an hour........

Bout 15-20mins for eventing plaits (lots of little ones!) with bands, bout 30mins with thread. But that is dependant on figity horses/how much of a perfectionist I am being

for local events and ode takes me about 10 mins...
then special events and shows 15-20 mins as i have to keep wetting the brush

and if putting tinsel in mane i plait and roll quickly, and wrap some tinsel around each rolled plait! looks super smart!!
also can't do tails so i pull them

however my plaits are tiny and i whizz through them, and if horse does make a fuss then i put a haynet up

all this plaiting talk made me think... (

)
damm. forgot what i was going to say. will ets or post when i remember...

one minute per plait with bands, about 1 min 30 secs per plait if sewing. sad that i know it that accurately, isn't it! i always time myself, gives me something else to think about while i'm doing it. if i'm in a hurry, i do fewer plaits, obv!

Depends on if he has rubbed his mane off firstly!

Depends if I am in a rush!

Depends if horse will oblige and keep head still.

As a rule about 30mins, I have to use Quic Braid and have only ever used bands.

Horse now has pulled tail so saves me 5mins not having to do that!

have been known to plait up with bands in 10 minutes (and was told by famous person parked next door that they had never seen plaits go in so fast!) but usually about 15/20 imins with bands bit longer if sewing.

How does everyone do it so quickly?

I take about 50 minutes!

But that is because i refuse to use bands and insist on at least 17 tiny perfect plaits!

I was thinking the same thing

Takes me about 45 mins with the world's most impatient horse who gets figety after about 20 mins. It has taught him manners if nothing else. He doesn't risk so much as flinching now

I've only plaited a handful of times so I hope I get it down to 30 mins somehow.

Think i need lots more practice

i'm with millbrooksong, don't bother sectioning bits off first, just use a plastic clothes peg (much better than a plastic comb, which always falls out!) to hold the next bit of mane out of the way. that way, if you get to a bit that just won't quite work, you can take a bit more or lose a little bit into the next plait you do, without having to alter every section you've already done... hope that makes sense!

about 20 to 30 mins depending on the pony. I tend to put between 7 and 13 plaits in with thread. I dont use bands ever. The plaits never look as good with bands and you cant use banded plaits to improve the neck!

Am I the only lazy person that doesn't plait up for dressage unless a championship?? Maybe you all compete at a high level? I'd rather spend my hard pressed time warming up effectively
