Hi, my mare has from the poll 60% mane, 30% no mane then 10% mane.

How do I go about plaiting this?
There is very little in the 'no mane' bit so not sure how I could attach dummy plaits?

I can plait the top 60% then just divide, gel and band the straggly bits(although they are so short I struggle to get the fluff together) then continue when the main starts again.

Anyone got any other suggestions??

is it a rug rubbing her that's caused the sparse bit? or another horse grooming her maybe? or is she scrubbing her mane on something? i think i'd try to get to the bottom of the reason first!
as far as plaiting it, i just do my best to make plaits out of what's there... but i'm not showing, so the quality and evenness of the plaits doesn't matter too much.
no idea how to attach false plaits... maybe you could make a few from spare tail hairs and then sew them in somehow?

it was her winter rugs (full neck) thought it wouldhave grown in more by now but really not a lot has come thru. I have rich picking in the top part to make dummy plaits but not sure how to go about fixing then to pretty much nothing.

Not sure how other people do it, but I've used hair extension glue, carefully taken some tail hair from round the back of the tail and made a small plait, stitched it then glued it one along with stitching it on if you can. So if you get them ready, then only stick them on a minute or two before your class, have a practice session and make sure the tail hair is the same colour as the main....otherwise it might look a bit odd

I just do what you're already doing i.e. plait where I can, make bobbles where I can't using bands & leave the rest. Believe me, when I'm doing a test, the judge has a lot more to worry about than the state of my plaiting...

But I s'pose you have to try harder than that if you're showing...
