Plaiting Question.

Lacey has some dressage on the weekend so I'm going to plait her, the only thing is her mane lies on the left side.
Will it be ok to have plaits on the left or should I try and plait on the right in which case they will stand up and be gold ball sized?

plait on the left - all the horses I have had - have had manes on the left - I always just plait on left. They were all irish too? dont know if coincidence!!!!
 
Just plait on the left it will so much neater than you trying to plait it on the right.

also im asuming you pull her mane? If so then you will get lots of short bits sticking up if you plait on the right and it wont look as good
 
Plait to the right - they won't stand up & be like golf balls if the mane is thinned and the right length

Ignore the dodgy clip line - she hates being clipped, but her mane lays to the left or straight up in the air

It is really incorrect to plait on the left, you should try and lie the mane over and plait to the right. My pony is exactly the same and I plait to the right. Was told not to plait to the left.
 
Seems like we're split 50/50 here. As I'm the one who'll probably end up plaiting I'm now thoroughly confused. Better practice beforehand. Although methinks I could volunteer to do tail and leave MB the mane. Tee hee

I usually show natives...so no plaiting required, but I'm taking the old lad out on sunday.

Best get practising before the weekend...:D

(PS...there is a really good vid on U-tube...I saw it ages ago.....some woman plaiting a grey horse up- really helpful.)
 
I simply won't be able to talk to you at shows if you plait Lacey's mane on the left I'm afraid.

If you start plaiting on the right & then leave the plaits in when you are done - but unfurled, it will start laying to the right. Just wet if before you plait.

It is definitely better to plait rather than not to plait for dressage. It is not a requirement but having written for a lot of dressage judges in the past they definitely prefer it. However, none of them have expressed an opinion as to whether the plaits are on the left or the right side and I have seen a lot of horses with plaits on the left side.

For showing I was always told that it was plaits on the right only.
