I always sew, I'm quite hopeless with bands.
I grew up in the time before plaiting bands were invented
I've plaited for people who have been going to two shows over the weekend and have won turnout classes on the second day. If you do them small enough and don't pull the hairs in too tight plaits aren't uncomfortable.

We would take as many as 14 horses to an event- so we have to plait the night before!- but always take out as soon as stressage and SJ over so latest lunch time the next day.
Sometimes there is the odd one to fix in the morning when they are getting a groom and the tales done but usually they are fine

If I have an early start I always plait the night before but I don't roll them till the morning. I also pop a hood on to keep them neet but re-do any I think need a tidy up in the morning. Anything to make things easier in the morning (ie 15 mins extra in bed!).
