First time using it so want to know:

Go to your local saddler and ask for some saddlery thread, and quilting needles. The thread is amazing, it grips well, I don't knot my threads at all and plaits stay in for days if need be. Quilting needles are longer and thicker so don't break.

Linen leather sewing thread is the same as linen plaiting thread! I'm a bridle maker and if I want a small amount of a colour I don't have in stock, I use plaiting thread. TBH I normally use braided nylon thread to sew leather which is so expensive I certainly wouldn't be giving it away to people to sew in plaits.
