How would you get a horse used to plaiting? I tried doing mine on saturday, and he hated it. I think he thought he was having his mane pulled, and he was rearing and kicking out!

I want to try and do some shows etc with him, so will need to be plaited.

Any ideas?

To start plaiting my youngster, I gave her a tasty snack and then quickly did as many as I could. Still have to do this with her forlock but she is getting better.

The problem came for county shows when they had to be sewn in, total nightmare to start!

A haynet? Or a friend standing at his head, with food if ness...try getting him used to touching the mane all the time mine is a tit to pull, but he knows that he gets tied up in the corner of his box for that so stands ok outside to plait..Loose plaits too.perhaps hes a sensitive sort

I feel blessed, Baron falls asleep when I do his, same with pulling and clipping!

I would get a friend to give him food while doing it, if hes that bad I doubt a haynet would do much. Some nice carrots will hopefully do the trick. Talk to him all the time and give him a little break after each one. Im sure he will get used to it and realise you are not hurting him soon
