Planning a quiet year

After spending a small fortune last year on all things pony related, I have decided to let this year pass as cheaply as possible.

I did a full season of showing, including a couple of outings further afield for Championships. This included a new full wardrobe for me and pony, a ton of lotions and potions, transport, membership, classes as well as what seemed like 100's of lessons. We did very well, brought home lots of reds and blues and ended up with 5 trophies at the end of seasons presentation, so the massive cost was worth it :)

I also had a few other outings to the beach, a new leather saddle for my mare, a wardrobe of rugs, blah bla bla and a massive year round hay bill from my previous rubbish yard.

To top it all I took on my own little yard in November and had to borrow a chuck of money to set up the yard with fencing, a shipping container, shelter and hay storage. All in all, I am completely broke!

This year I get married so have the wedding and honeymoon to pay for. I am also working full time and doing an OU degree 3/4 full time so life is pretty hectic. Due to all of this, I have made the decision to just relax this year and be a happy hacker. There is a RC down the road that does the odd little show, so if the urge gets too much I can pop along there as a day member.

I am a little disappointed as I love having something to aim at, but I am very much looking forward to the recovery of my bank account! Just sat now thinking about the amount I have spent and it makes my eyes water!

So, anyone else having a quiet year by choice this year?
 
Wow, what an amazing year you've had (and sounds like you've got another good one to come too :))

On the upside at least you do have the RC down the road, occasionally doing the odd show through the summer will keep you ticking over! Do you have good hacking?

I'm also having a verryyy quiet year. Last year I went travelling for four months, spent two months not working and acting as a roadie for my boyfriend's band (so got into a lot of festivals for free!), moved into a flat with said boyfriend, got a cat, and to top it off, bought myself my first proper horse!

This year will all be about bonding with him, bringing him on nice and slowly (he's a 5 year old sec D, only really backed and hacked), and saving up enough to go to the odd clinic/show. Boyfriend and I are also headed to Australia for two weeks in June, so definitely going to be some quiet weekends for a while! I'd also love to start saving up enough to buy my own lorry, but with city-life, a new horse and holidays, I doubt there will be much leftover
 
That sounds amazing! I would love a lorry, but that is a very long way into the future :)

Yes, we have brilliant hacking that I am yet to properly explore. We have some gallops an hours hack away and also a pond for swimming. The more I think about it, the more excited I am :) No pressure, no ridiculously early starts, no hours of cleaning tack, no stress of late transport and class clashes. It sounds great!
 
I'm going the other way. My little cob is rising 5yr old and has had a pretty easy life so far, so I reckon its time to get him out and about. Im not planning on tons of competing, but lots of clinics and low key events for him and his rider. I am planning on riding him a bit this year, but I'm not sure how much I will be up to, so I'm using the time to educate him and his rider. I'm going to play owner and I'm really looking forward to it :)

Sounds like you had a brilliant 2014! Surely with what you save on your bills you can do a little bit with your horse? It's not like you will have to buy all the gear again ;) haha
I'm another one planning a busy year, with showjumping and dressage on my girl, 2 to compete dressage and a little eventer (if all goes to plan!!) With a job change, which is a massive step up and a yard move it's all going to be quite hectic for a while. Hopefully we'll all be settled in a nice little rythm by the time the summer come. /:)

And this is so lovely! Really nice of you to offer someone that opportunity and teach them, best of luck for your season :)
 
The pony is rising 5yr old and his rider is a 14yr old boy so I reckon they are the equivalent of each other. They can both be moody and prone to strops about being asked to work and are both definitely full of ridiculous ideas about what it sensible and what isnt :lol:
 
Good job you enjoy a challenge! Best of luck for all your - and their - endeavours this year. Could we have some pics of their outings, please?
