Planning permission for mirrors?

I shouldn't imagine you do as putting up mirrors doesn't require any 'building works' its not much different from putting up a fence although there are rules about that if you are next to a public highway or in an area of beauty etc. Hopefully someone else may be more help!

The neighbours to the yard will put in a complaint about anything so we have to be very careful, apparently it took about 5 years to get the flood lights installed not sure if its an area of beauty though as its not far from the motorway.

Ordinarily, you wouldn't need any permissions for mirrors or a fence come to that - you have a right to erect fencing up to 1.83 mtrs (old fashioned 6ft ) measured from the nearest highest ground without any seeking of permissions - anything over that does require consent. You must bear in mind that all councils now regard Horseyculture as the most environmentally damaging lifestyle known to man and will bring up legislation from Doomsday to thwart your every move - especially if you have "helpful" neighbours.

Therefore; I'd go and see your local authority - it always helps to see a face - ascertain their opinion - take a photo of someone else's mirrors as examples - then ask for a "determination" this takes the form of a letter of them acknowledging that you will put them up. Mirrors as such are not a construction under the terms of Building Regulations and way below the sizes for Planning Permission.

Thank you that was very helpfull, I'll get permission off YO first and then go through all the legal work. A friend is selling some very cheaply and we would be very silly turning them down as I've been wanting some for ages :)

If its as political as you say worth contacting your local planning dept http://www.gloucester.gov.uk/LGNL/E...lopmentControl-DoIneedPlanningPermission.aspx
and speak to someone at least when your YO neighbour phones up to complain your call will be logged and they can satisfy the neighbour that they are aware and have no issues etc :D
