There have been quite a lot of posts about how to go about getting planning permission granted but I wondered if anybody had any helpful hints on anything useful to try and get planning permission turned down? (We have a company trying to get planning permission near us which will have a detrimental effect on our village).

The planning office are obliged to send letters to neighbours informing them and telling them how to object. If you're not a neighbour, go onto the Council's planning website where you should be able to find the application and the number for it. You can then write to the planning office to object. Ideally you need to object on slightly stronger grounds than "I don't think it will look nice" so have a look around the planning website to find any policies the development will contravene.

Visit the council, get the details of the plans (all on line now) and follow their instructions on making your comments. Be specific about why you are objecting. Get as many people in the village to write in as well to make it clear it's not a few NIMBY's but genuine concern. Get parish council involved.
There may be an open meeting so get lots of people to go along to that but be calm and polite - you need lots of voices but not necessarily to shout to be heard.

You have to show that it will have a detrimental impact on your lives in some way - it will make for unacceptable and/or dangerous levels of traffic, ruin your outlook, create unacceptable levels of noise, etc etc - those are all valid planning objections. "I don't want it here" isn't. To have a stronger voice, get together with others of the same mindset and form a group to object, with and through your Parish Council if they are opposed to it too.

Thank you all :-) the news is getting round the village and the last time this happened the parish council got involved and it was stopped so hopefully it will be the same this time.
