Plantain, weeds etc over taking paddock

I posted a while ago asking for advice on paddock grass seeding… worked well for the paddock in question but I now have a further problem in another paddock.
The paddock is absolutely FULL of weeds to the point where there is no grass.
At a glance it looks like a perfectly green grassy paddock however when you actually look at the ground it is not grass but what I presume is plantain or something covering the WHOLE thing. Obviously I appreciate you’re going to get weeds in a paddock, tall and short but these genuinely cover the whole area.
How would people go about sorting this?
Do you think I need to get someone in to turn the soil etc and completely start again?

Your first step would be to identify exactly the weed. Plantain can be eaten by horses, they won`t touch dock though. Dock is usually topped.

Might be worth contacting a local farmer they will probably know what it is and how to get rid of it for you.

Fairly confident it’s plantain and they don’t touch it…. Think if it was to a lesser extent it would be fine.
We still get a bit of dock and taller weeds here and there which are topped throughout the summer. So frustrating as literally cannot top it etc to prevent it from growing back as it’s virtually flat to the ground

You can use a general lawn weed killer. It will kill weeds but not grasses as it affects only dicotyledons I.e. plants with broad leaves such as plantain and dandelions.

My fields are looking very weedy (is that a word?) too. I have plantain but also lots of this stuff this year, which the horses won’t eat. Any one any idea what it is?

I think it might be Red Bartsia? Good for bees, but parasitic and likes poor/ unfertile soil.

Try to identify the weed then look at the Progreen website which will tell you the best weedkiller to use. It's probably too late in the year now so will need to wait until next Spring to spray.
Plantain likes wet, compacted areas.

Depitox weedkiller is effective for Plantain. I think I bought it from Mole Valley. I'm still spot spraying when it's dry and killing off the weeds
