As of a couple of weeks horse has started bucking going into canter and on occasions not wanting to go forward at all/bucking. It's more of a kick out than a bronc.
Had the physio 3 weeks ago and nothing was noted in terms of obvious pain, saddle has been checked.
Horse has a history of ulcers and I've got some Abler Omeprozole/Sucralfate - is it worth treating him for a month? Seems odd it's timed with all the spring grass coming through and not sure if it's caused a flare up.

Is this the same horse you posted about last april?
Yes - he had arthramid injections back then that worked very well. My physio only came out 2/3 weeks ago max and said he was moving the best he ever has, which is why I’m surprised at the sudden change. He had similar behaviour when he had grade 2 ulcers

This is a stifle or hock issue til proven otherwise . It’s one for a vet im afraid

Alright there Mystic Meg 🤣

OP no one can say what the issue is, only that there IS an issue. You need the vet.

Yes you could give him omeprazole and see if it improves, but the rest might improve it and throw you off the scent. Given that this is a recurring issue, you really need the vet and not the physio.

If this is similar issues
You were facing then and its been a year since he’s been injected then he may well need doing again.

Mine had similar behaviour almost 2yrs ago, it was ulcers in the end. But worth getting vet to cast their eye. He also has arthritic hock, treated with arthramid last March, topped up in April before he got sore on it again.

Thank you I’m going to get the vet out, it’s just been confusing as the behaviour has been more like when he had ulcers than when he needed his hocks doing, he didn’t show any signs with his hocks I just didn’t feel he felt 100%, whereas he was quite explosive with his ulcers! Such a minefield

Personally (but this has been the case 6 times with my horse), I would wonder about acidosis if he has had increased access to spring grass. My horse swings his right hind wide and doesnt travel under it, if he has a hind gut flare. Putting him on Equishure for a few weeks fixes it and there is an improvement within 5 days. I would order some and try it, if the grass timing fits. Though it wont particularly be cheaper than getting the vet out.
