Looking for recommendations for buying Plastic Electric Fence Posts ....

Whenever I have ask for you guys help on here before, you have always come up trumps :D

I refuse to pay £17 plus for 5 posts 4' posts in Scats ............ or even their 'offer' of buy 2 and get one free is too expensive ...

Thankee ;)

Just a little tip when buying plastic fencing posts, if you can, always buy posts made with "UV Stabilised, Virgin plastic" There are many posts which are made from recycled plastic, which in the sunlight will go brittle and snap. Posts made with fresh UV stabilised polymer, will last better and be better quality. Gallagher, Rutland and Horizont do good quality posts, stocked by many such as Countrywide, Mole Valley, Farm Care etc. also if using plastic posts with 20 or 40mm tape in exposed locations, put your posts closer to avoid the tape whipping in the wind and invest in proper tape joiners, NOT KNOTS! Happy fencing.

I've used agri-supply, paddock perfection and Mole Valley Farmers all of which have been great.

I've just purchsed a job lot of 50 post off of a newish seller on ebay and they arrived next working day, well pleased :D

Thank you all for your suggestions, as to where best to buy the posts and in particular thank you TheEngineer for your very constructive advice regarding the types of plastic etc. I must admit, I have always purchased good quality plastic fence posts and now I think I may need to continue, rather than looking for what I thought was going to be 'value for money'.

Especially as my TB managed to catch a length of them and one broke and stuck in his leg, leading to 3 days of being cross tied, just in case it had fractured a bone. Luckily he was ok, but reading your comments, it could have been worse, if I had bought cheap ones ................

You are welcome, I have worked for 16 years for one of the UK,s top horse clipper and fencing manufacturer/distributors. I am happy to pass on my experience for anyone with problems or queries, even though I quit my position in Marchof this year. I have always had a very Ethical attitude towards my customers and I have been lucky to deal with some superb dealers who share my attitude to customer service. So please feel free to ask for advice and if anyone ever needs a clipper and sharpening engineer, keep me in mind.

I have bought Rutland and various other cheaper makes.... will always buy Rutland from now on as the others are much cheaper quality and don't last

The soundest advice. Recycled plastic posts break down in sunlight, and wont last long.

Another tip for you; when erecting electric fencing, having it hanging like loose washing lines, wont give a good contact on the horse. Your wires or tape must be as tight as possible, and this means that stout and fixed anchor/corner/or strainer posts are vital. Even then, we had a horse here who used to test the fence to see if it was powered. He would carefully stroke it with a chin whisker, and if he got no response, he would just walk straight through it!! :D

Good luck.

Alec.
