Hi All
Does anybody use plastic shoes on their ponies? What are the reasons you are doing so? A friend on the yard is having to (on the fronts only) due to numpty horse forever yanking them off, trashing his hoof wall and inadequate growth of wall to put metal back on. He's had 2 different types - sorry I don't know the names. The 1st time they stayed on very well for 5 weeks, the 2nd time they lasted about 3 weeks and now with an alternative variety they've lasted 3 days

He stands on his feet yanking them off - any gizmos out there to prevent this??
Just interested really.

I used imprint shoes and they stayed on brilliantly, two pairs for about 6 weeks and the last pair he lost one after 5 weeks. They are rather expensive to keep paying out for, so agree with above suggestion - go barefoot! How about some hoof boots in the meantime so he is not in pain?

Problem is at the mo he can't go barefoot - he's got no hoof! What I mean is his hoof wall is so pants it needs protecting hence the plastic shoes. Re boots - good idea, we just need to get him through the Area Festival dressage this weekend

Do the blacksmiths need to be trained to fit these shoes - I'm guessing yes as per normal, just makes me wonder if he is...... dont get me wrong, he's a good farrier (he's not mine, but the other ladies wouldn't use unless he was good) or needs some stronger glue!
