Plats in manes for thieves?? Please advise

They are already I reckon - you can get a fix on mobiles (if you watch the Bill) and apparently all the advertising that comes up on google etc is streamed to your profile of searches (probably why weight loss comes up on mine)

Really?? OMG now I'm getting paranoid!!!

I've always heard of this, never encountered it though. I always assumed it was true but did always, at the same time, wonder if your going to steal a horse, you know which one and you will come back and take it. Why would you plait the mane, when it's nearly common knowledge that it "could" be theives targeting your horse?

I feel, if it were me, i'd be cautious. It's easy for me to say it's a myth but in fairness, i know if i pulled in one of mine and found a plait, I'd be on patrol like the guys in Dad's Army!

I'm always of the opinion, better safe than sorry.

I had two come in plaited in the summer. The one was a scraggy sec A who I wouldn't have imagined anyone but me to want lol...I moved the herd back to my yard for a week as a precaution and then business as usual...I'd like to see them try taking my lot across the fields and bridlepatchs to load up on the dual carriageway the way they took my rugs mind you.....

Hello just found this thread and wanted to let you know of my experience. Two weeks ago I started to find very fine plaits in my two youngsters manes. These were on the underside of the mane and not viewable unless you inspected closely. I moved one of the youngsters (went for gelding) and the other was left in the field with his friends. A week last saturday I came to the field to find fencing removed and the colt stolen. Now it could be a coincidence, but Im not risking moving the other youngster back onto the field. First thing the lady at horse watch asked was if they had plaits!! According to her its so the theif/thieves on entering the field can run their hands up the horses mane and target the ones earmarked for the lorry, without having to take in torches and so raise suspisions.
How they managed to remove wooden fencing without being heard is another thing but they were very determined.

well to prove Im not a walter, here is the crime number Ref B93127/2010. Black 2yr old colt, middleweight, large white blaze, stolen from Lundwood in Barnsley. Doe this pass the test!!!!

Thankyou Gina, It might have been a coincidence that the plaits appeared and as I turn my horses out 24/7 they will come have some knots and fairy plaits in their manes. But these were a too well done to have been wind/weather/kids messing around!

Just hope that he is found soon and gets back to us safetly. Trying to work out how to post photos on the stolen thread to get the word out.

Im sorry to hear about your horse, its heartbreaking when you dont know where they are. x

**Edited, just realised you said cat, thought it was the name of the horse xx

It must be worse with a horse, horrendous and this has been a theme today. Only so much we can do.

We have had a lot off this in our area during summer, was not due to the wind and rain, it got a lot off people worried but was all a joke as far as I'm concerned. It was the same horses being plated night after night!!!! WHY???
If you want the horse just bloody take it, and no horses were stolen either

COMPLETELY TRUE. They look Irish, you know the sort. Speak with an Eastern European accent, drive a transit van and THATS what they use to steal the horses.

No word of a lie, my mothers cousins, niece told me that it happened to her neighbour.

Sorry to hear about your stolen horse.
I would suggest that you create a web site about your stolen horse and include a colour poster that can be downloaded and printed off (including pictures of your horse) so that people can stick them up at tack shops and feed merchants.
Also make sure that you contact the NED online (National Equestrian Database) so that they mark the record of your horse on the database as stolen.
