my boy is a lovely friendly boy, with everything and everyone. he is however quite 'playful', esp when grooming/fiddiling about etc. he seems to be getting more and more playful, prob alot to do with the lack of grass so spends all day playing in the field with his mates, and boy, they play!!! when i'm grooming him etc, he always picks brushes up, licks my back/bum when i'm doing his feet. pulling his mane is a bit of a faff as he's always trying to see what your doing, licks brushes, chews rope/walls, sniffs my face. do you think this is actually a lack of respect for me??? he sometimes nips, which i do not tolorate, but constantly sniffing/licking etc etc!!

playful id say.....my boy is the same-picks up buckets, takes all the shampoo out the holder, tips the foot skip over, chews my hair/headband/belt/wellies/, switches the tap on/off, tries to chase the hose etc!!!

No I wouldn't say lack of respect, just curious about what you are doing. I take it he is a youngster and I've found that geldings tend to do mock fights, that's why they trash the paddocks.

i would say playful. my mare is very playful too: she is into every thing. I try to keep her busy with toys, liks... I play with her a lot, but when it gets to rough (using teeth for exemple!!) I just stop the play.

I find it great that you can play with him. I is just a great way to bond with him

Mine does this, but only because she's searching for treats, which is my fault for indulging her, so I've cut them back now - lol.

I have a 17 yr old pony who has never done much with his life except being a cheeky git! He has always been this way and he also likes to nip (not that I take it!). I would say just playful.

Playful nature, Toto is very very cheeky, he'll quite often go through bags and coat pockets and help himself to polos/carrots/anything edible. He opens his stable door but doesn't move, just stands there and waits, he chews the end of brooms and shavings forks, he overturns buckets, nibbles your back when you pick his front feet out, he regulary unties himself but doesn't go anywhere, and picks fights with his neighbour. Cheeky little oik, he randomly decided to sniff my face, and then lick me on the nose today!

Interested. I'd say you sound like you're doing a good job raising him

Just beware the back licking. One day its all nuzzley nice, the next they've got your knickers in their teeth pulling a wedgie!

Mine does this, he his nose in everything. He's 4.5 and quite baby-ish (and it is rather cute), however I am being strict when it turns to nipping which it has done a couple of times. I was wearing work shorts which have a trendy buckle across the top of the bum the other day and he thought that was great fun to grab when I was bent down brushing his tummy!

Haha this made me laugh...mine has to get through the famous yard coat first and would have to lift his head really really high to pull my belly warmer knickers into a wedgie

Playful nature, enjoy the fun. We used to have a welshy who would wait until the wheelbarrow was full and then tip it over when your back was turned and stand there looking innocent. My highland would walk off with hammers, pliers etc. when we were fencing and he would play hide and seek. (He wasn't very good at hiding being a 15.1 highland)

Playful I would say! My gelding loves to pick up my Oster grooming kit and drop it on the floor, the same with lotions I am using. He is a naturally very inquisitive gelding. One time we were re cementing a pole down on the arena and he just had to stick his nose into the wheel barrow of cement (I turned him out in there loose whilst we were working for a rest from grass). At least he was already grey lol ;-)

loved reading these posts! cheeky horses are such fun. my little man is just the same. he always has to know what i'm doing. sniffs my bum when picking out his feet. he has to sniff his boots before i put them on. if i'm brushing his face, he tries to grab the brush and if i let him he'll jst hold it in his mouth for a few moments then drop it. yesterday, he tried to drink out of the yard dog bowl and ended up picking it up and throwing it! his cute habit is he rests his head on my shoulder when i'm doing up the front buckles on his rug. love em!!
