Please advice needed

Hi,
We had a pony delivered today in not a great state, I’m devastated tbh it’s a long story. He’s covered in wounds, he didn’t have these when seen last week.
But I have since looked online about what’s going on, and came across ringworm. Owner has been dishonest saying doesn’t know how he got them.
Please honestly I feel like I’m having the worst anxiety because we are new to the stables and he has been out in a field (on his own) but next to other horses. Everyone is going to hate me so much, does anyone have any advice. I’m calling the vet tommorow.

That doesn't look like ringworm its normally on the body with many small scabs, that looks like his got caught up fallen over or possibly been kicked several times.

They don't look serious they will heel up none look infected but if your really worried get your vet out.

Thankyou I think my main worry is he has ring worm, I’m mainly just so worried about causing an outbreak at the new stables. If he has it and I have to pay to treat him so be it but I just don’t need the stress of upsetting the new yard

I’d say he has tried and failed to get over a gate/door. I don’t see anything that makes me think ringworm.

They are just in such strange places. One is behind his tail one inside his back leg, rest all over leg in random places. I just can’t put my finger on if he’s got caught or had a fight. Or if he has ring worm. God I don’t know if to hold off on the vet till Monday and see how it goes. Other people at the yard looked at him today and no one mentioned ring worm but I don’t know if that’s because no one has ever seen it before you know.

Ringworm is usually on the body, rather than the legs and is literally in rings (circular). I would simply wash those grazes with salt water and then leave them to heal, while keeping an eye on them. He could even have caused them on the transport by standing on himself trying to balance.

Certainly not ringworm.
Looks like he's got stuck somewhere though some of the lower leg ones could have happened when travelling.
Give him some love and care and they'll soon heal up.

I agree with others that he's got caught up in something or got upset/stuck travelling. How did he seem when he came off the box?
I'd put my money on him kicking off in transit and causing self harm. Worth keeping in mind if/when you travel in the future.

Aw bless you, try not to worry. I'm sure it will all work out and it'slike others have said, he'sgot caught up in something.

Just in case it was a pull back accident that caused it if I were you I'd buy some of those breakaway ties, not bailing twine which is the devil's own work and a quick release clip as the headcollar/leadrope attachment.

Just a really sensible tip from someone whose horse literally split himself in two down the middle and made his chronic S.I issue acute when panicking when the twine that I'd already halved prior to tying him up didn't break. Think baling twine are made ridiculously strong these days.

They look like hair lose from injury, perhaps caught or lost footing in the trailer. Depending when you took the photos they look a day or so old, dry but not starting to scab.
I just wouldn't tie him up anywhere until you know the trigger, its pretty easy to teach them to stand with a dropped rope or use a longer lead rope, thread it through the tie up ring and hold in your hand.
Ringworm is a fungal skin infection, it just needs warm and damp conditions, and on animals can happen where the animal sweats, on my cows in spring on their necks it looked like tiger stripes.

I agree they look to be physical wounds, not an infection.
Only thing to look out for would be whether he has a habit of some sort that caused them & that you need to deal with.
Always an anxious time getting a new pony. Hope he settles in well & is everything you want him to be.

I echo the above..not ringworm but injuries. Perhaps occurred when trying to catch and put in the box to be delivered as they look recent. We ve all been there..deep breath…clean the wounds..apply soothing anti bac preparation and monitor. By all means get the vet for a check up if it eases your mind.

Yes it is possible but these photos were taken moments after getting of transport. They look a few days old to me.

Agreed, they are days old….but could possibly have come from transport days before was what I was meaning.
