I recieved a phonecall today from a mob number 07587193107 ,
I answered it because I have my own buisness being a horse trainer and I advertise to get more custom
Anyway this bloke phoned me to say he was making up a book that was a crime prevention book but also had a advertising page and that for a fee of 33.00 a year , I would be the only trainer In the book , when he asked me if I
would like join and add my details for that sum of money I said no as I never join anything over the phone never have and never will , at this point he put the phone down on me , I looked number up on google and it has been known this number is dodgy and has scammed someone of 150.00
Please if anyone is advertising stuff or jobs please becareful if anyone phones to ask if you would like to join over the phone to a book or site please make sure it is ok
For me I didnt fall for it but , he sounded ok and professional and I can see alot of people falling for it

Eeek thanks. There's nothing to stop him changing his number so it's good to know that this is going, on even if the number isn't recognised as this one.

It seems this number has been used before as to how I found out on google that they had 150.00 out of someone they also use a home phone number
Tried ringing it back but they have switched it off , he sounded very disappointed he didn't get his money !!

I had someone ring about a month ago saying they were bringing out a Horse Security Magazine and would i like to advertise my stallion in it for a reduced fee.... after giving me lots of info i said well send me a prototype of your magazine ill have a look and see what i think - he put the phone down and that was the end of that! Definately a scam!

This is a REALLY common scam - and they try it with the marketing departments of large companies too ;)
I've had calls saying they're calling from the Police/Fire and Ambulance Commissions - of course if you actually call who they're claiming to be from the magazine doesn't exist.
They will also claim (especially if they think you're new in a job) that the company has advertised with them before.
Then if you still say no they'll try the guilt trip of don't you want to do your bit for the community etc... whatever they claim they are thieving git bags

Well it must be a common number they use I just sent a text to say they are low life scum bags and need to get a proper job
And stop scamming every poor innocent git
And the reply .........

Bloody ouch !!!

I got exactly the same as I am a freelance dressage trainer, I listened to all of their offers and I was "the only trainer in it" bla bla bla

So I told them I usually get given my advertising for free and so unless they wanted to sponsor me I wouldn't be interested! They quickly decided they wouldn't get anything from me so rudely hung up :D

It has done the rounds for a few years now, but they keep trying!

They Obversly managed to get some people otherwise surely they would of given up by now and try something different

Have you reported this to the police or trading standards? They may be trying to build a case against these people.

Google any odd numbers you get coming through, you can just type the number in as the search term, and it will straight away come up with feedback on whether it is a scam. This one certainly is!

I've had about 4 of these calls in one year. Really irritating, they usually get a proper rant and probably regret calling! I also hate cold callers at the house- not so bad as they arent scamming ...well at least not illegally. Though how they accessed an ex-directory number probably is!

I agree though, the phone numbers will likely change, but its good to warn people about the scamming to give them a heads up! :)

There are unfortunately a lot of this type of scam going. Because of legal loophole, the Police, who are thoroughly aware, are unable to do anything. Trading Standards though want as much feedback as possible.
I don't man to be rue, but a lot of scammers do seem to be based in the Manchester area.
