ON THE NIGHT OF SAT 7TH JUNE 08 THERE WAS AN ATTEMPTED HORSE THEFT FROM A FIELD AT A LIVERY YARD IN STUTTON, TADCASTER BETWEEN LEEDS AND YORK. THREE GREY HORSES ONE IRISH SPORTS HORSE ONE CONNEMARA AND ONE COB WERE FOUND OUT LOOSE AND THEIR FIELD FENCING DRIVEN OVER TO THE GROUND. THESE THREE HORSE HAD BEEN TARGETED FROM A FIELD OF 20. THE POLICE HAVE BEEN OUT AND THIS IS A RECORDED CRIME WITH A REF NO. WE ARE ALL HEARING HOW THESE TEXTS ARE HOAXES OR CHINESE WHISPERS BUT THIS LEAVES US COLD IN YORKSHIRE. PLEASE REMOVE ALL HEADCOLLARS FROM OUTSIDE FIELDS AND EVEN MAYBE PADLOCK GATES. NOT IDEAL BUT MAYBE A DETERANT? <font color="red"> </font>

Not meaning to make light of the situation, but how on earth do you know that the horses that were out of the paddock were the ones that were *targeted*

If there were 20 horses in the field then any could have been *targeted*

Also there is nothing to say that someone didn't lose control of their car and drive through the fence accidentally and then bugger off PDQ!
 
SORRY BUT DIDNT GO INTO MASSIVE DETAIL. THIS IS A SECLUDED FIELD DOWN A LANE. THE THIEVES HAD DRIVEN DOWN THE FENCE THROUGH ONE FIELD AND DRIVEN TO ANOTHER AND CUT DOWN ENOUGH WIRE TO LET A HORSE THROUGH. THERE WERE TYRE TRACKS ALL OVER. OUT OF THE THREE HORSES TARGETED 2 OF THEM ARE HARD TO CATCH, DONT KNOW IF THATS WHY THEY HAVENT BEEN SUCCESSFUL. ALSO ANOTHER OF OUR FRIENDS REPORTED SOMEONE ON HER LAND AT 4AM THIS MORNING AND THE POLICE WERE GOING ON TO INTERVIEW HER, SHE LIVES 2 MINUTES AWAY.
 
Still do not understand how you or anyone can be sure which horses were targeted though - those are just the horses that got out. For sure having wire cut is very worrying

PLEASE TELEPHONE TADCASTER POLICE REFERING TO THIS INCIDENT AND THEY WILL ASSURE YOU THIS IS A TRUE THEFT ATTEMPT. IM A BIT SCARED OF GIVING DETAILS ON SITE LIKE THIS AS NOT SURE WHO LOOKS AT THEM AND WHETHER A CRIME REF NO WOULD GIVE OUT OUR DETAILS ADDRESS ETC (BEING V CAUTIOUS AT MO!!) SORRY!
 
no offence but why dosent sum1 photograph the van or suspicious vehicle at the moment when i`m hacking i have to carry a stick and am also carrying a camera yes i am a newibe but i think this is a valid comment
 
I don't know the circumstances of this one, and it may be a genuine attempt to steal horses -but let's put things in perspective. Yards are usually pretty secure, with locked gates, whether they be horse yards or farm yards with expensive machinery. Very often the easy route to stealing stuff is to go across neighbouring fields and this could be what happened here burglars aren't too troubled about what might be in the fields, or what might get out as a result of their activities.

If nothing else, a useful reminder to all of us that the attack on your yard may not come from the most obvious direction
 
If the field is adjacent to a road, could it have been a Saturday night road accident, with a vehicle leaving the road and going through the fence into the field, but being removed and not reported as an accident?

one question is why cant these people be caught! if this isnt a hoax
 
As far as I can work out: a car drove in a field(sounds like the beginning of a joke) by accident, drove out the other side and 3 horses escaped through the gap in the fence. So we should be looking out for joyriders? In a blue Golf?

the area where the fence was broken down by vehicles is down a single tack lane leading to more stables and then a dead end. There is no reason for anyone to be down there. Please understand that the vehicle had ploughed down one fence and then driven across at least 3 acres to get to the field where the horses were grazing. it is very unlikely that this was an accident! the police agreed!
 
none of this makes sense :S but its still very worrying, im finding myself making mental notes of anybody i see acting even slightly suspicous around my horses :S i cant help it lol, teh blue golf bit was "suposedly" another vehicle that these people have been seen in, so i was wondering if anybody can prove this? as one has been hanging round my field two days running at the same time and place, just parked there, its kinda creepy lol
 
What dont you understand? this is a serious attempt to steal horses from a secluded livery yard in yorkshire. We are left asking why us, and it just shows it could so easily be any one of us. This is our attempt to make sure it doesnt happen to anyone we know and also others we dont. There is nothing really to be confused about other than why this is happening! Just be on your guard and protect your horses the best way you can!
