a thick REAL Sheepskin half pad. I'm looking online but can not tell the thickness, has anyone used the Shires ones only about £40ish Im willing to go up to £70.

I use a Mattes sheepskin half pad with shims, it's really high quality. They are a bit above your £70 budget, think prices start around £90 and go up to about £115. I also use their half lined numnah on another pony, again with shims. Been using them for years and they still come up as good as new.
