Will try and keep this short. One of my GSDs has had a soft lump about an inch across on her tail for ages. Vets checked it and not too concerned, thought it was just a cyst. When she was spayed in early April vet considered removing it but as she was having a hernia repair as well decided not to do anything else to her. She recovered really well from op, but about a week ago the lump on her tail became very inflamed and hard. Cue trip to the vets and course of antibiotics, which seemed to do the job. Took her back yesterday am for a check, with lump almost back to normal, and vet said, think we need to get that off as he was concerned it would flare up once off antibiotics. They kept her in there and then leaving one fairly shocked owner.

Anyway picked her up last night and she seems fine, but resembles a poodle. Although vet is still pretty confident it is just a cyst the lump has been sent off for tests as sadly both Buffys dam and sister died from cancer. Please keep fingers crossed for me that everything comes back clear.
Well done if you got to the end.

Vibes from me! The Dear Departed Nanci had a big lump on her back, sounds very similar, the vets always told us it was harmless but it doesn't stop you worrying, it didn't seem to bother her though.

Loads of vibes for Buffy and hugs for you - I am sure it will be nothing serious!

I still remember one of my whippets developed a lump on her rib cage - I took her to the vets, who said it was a tumour and needed operating on immediately. Cue 24 hours of complete panic and worry, they took her in the next day, made a god-awful job of removing it (rubbish stitches, very messy) - then told me 'oh no, it was just a lump of fat'

I had just moved to the town and this was the first time I had used them - needless to say I changed to another vets as soon as they had taken the stitches out

Thanks for the vibes. I do have complete confidence in my vets, was not at all bothered by this lump, hadn't altered in so long. Vet was very reassuring, they actually asked if I wanted it sending off rather than doing it automatically so I am trying to tell myself it will be fine, but you know what its like. Its just her family history that worries me, but think this is probably why they suggested getting lump checked.

ah. she's been through the mill a bit hasn't she. glad to read in your reply to my post she is feeling better today. fingers crossed for the results x

Just a quick update. Buffys tail was looking quite good and then yesterday she decided to have a real chew at it

Back to vets today as it was looking a bit nasty. More antibiotics and have got a buster collar for her, which she hates. Freaked out for about 10 mins bashing me on the legs several times. Have taken it off for now and she is lying quietly worn out by the stressing. The wound is in such an awkward place I think it is going to be a really long job getting it to heal.

And the biopsy results aren't going to be back until end of week/early next week cos of the bank holiday. Keep the vibes coming please.
