My mum's cob had pinworm going back late last year, so the vet said to double dose him and then do another worm count. So we double dosed him with what the vet suggested, a month later the whole yard done a worm count which all came back clear (even mums cob).

Anyway, yesterday we was pooh picking and notice 2 worms in his fresh pooh

How the hell can he be cleared one day and get them back another day (so to speak) the only thing i can think of is we turned our boys out into a field that has been rested for 6 or so months could the field be infected??

My pooh mum is so ashamed she was nearly in tears

We pooh pick everyday so god knows why he has got them again :0(

Any advise comments would be great as we are at a lost on what to do, we are going to speak to our vets today

Thank you

When we had pin worm we where given a lotion by the vet that we had to wipe on there bums and dock everyday for a month we where told that pin worm are more common now as modern wormers are less effectient at killing them but the worming followed by the the lotion sorted it.

pinworm does not show up in a normal worm count. You have to blot their bottoms with selotape and send it off to be looked at (westgate will do this for free :) )

I see, I know he had the blot test done first of all then followed by the worm count.

Can I ask a stupid question, if worm count does not test for pin worm and tape worm what other worms does it test for?

Thank you very much for your comments

You might find the information from Intelligent Worming on THIS page to be worth a look... Information about the different worm types and which chemical does what etc...

I don't know why your mum would be embarrassed... Pin worm and head lice outbreaks in youngsters at nursery or school normally puts paid to any embarrassment factor about small crawlies or unwanted inhabitants...:D
