Hi
I had a mare that did something very similar last year. Someone put leg straps on her and she bolted from her stabled, straight through the yard gate and onto a very busy road. The rug got all twisted and she kept tripping and getting taggled up. After multiple falls she got so tangled she couldnt get up. She had to be cut free from her rug.
She was covered in cuts, it took the vet two hours to clean her up. I was devasted, she had deep cuts on her knees and had to have staples in two places.
As she was only 4, she made a remarkable recovery. After 2 months I was back on board. Noone could believe how she recovered, I was devasted at the time. Granted she is covered in scars, but I love her s much and now I am very protective of her.
So chin up, she will hopefully make a full recovery like mine did. My thoughts are with you.

Really sorry to hear this. You've just described one of my (various) nightmares associated with horses.
