Please can you comment on this horse...

Dont worry Silver, she has always over reacted to things....

I think you're being very unkind.

CL is about to loose her beloved horse - so shall we all cut a little slack????????

Can I be cut some slack for only saying that I wouldn't want to comment on a horse that was for sale? We all deal with grief in different ways but I don't think lashing out a strangers is ever appropriate.

Silverspring. I am sorry I called you an idiot, but I pm'ed you to ask you to stop nit picking, and explained why. I do think you could have been more understanding.

Daisychain, I dont think I am over reacting, I have got to have my seven year old prized boy put to sleep this week, I dont think I am overreacting to anything, rathermore I am trying to stay positive for sanitys sake, which is the reason I emaied Silverspring in the first place to try and ask her to be positive with me.

I am not fussed about negative comments on the blinking horse, thats why I posted...the horse is 5 hours away, so I wanted to gage initial opinions on him as I am crap on confirmation and even looking for horses...so thank you for all being so honest.

Chloe

i would go for a look

Buggar what everyone else thinks, (ok perhaps that is the wrong thing to say seen as you did post it to get opinions) but lets face it, everyone is different, loads of us will think he's beautiful, some will hate it, some will find millions of faults, some will find only a few, it really depends on what your wanting the horse for.

If you like him, he's healthy, passes the vet and fit for the job intended then please don't be influenced by everyone else, it will only confuse you, buying a new horse should be exciting and fun, not full of negativity and he said this and she said that.

Good luck, first impressions, beautiful, but I'm sure a good vet will be able to tell you hell of a lot more important things about his confirmation etc than anyone here (no offence guys and I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong) just trying to get postee to look at him with a fresh pair of eyes.

Blimey, I have read this thread, and have my own opinion on this.

Chloe, all the points about the conformation have been covered, as has the subject of the colour change that will occur over time, so no need for me to go over old ground.

What I will say though, is that if going to see this horse keeps you occupied and gives you something to look forward to at such a sad time for you, then go do it!

If it is right for you, you will know it when you see it in the flesh and try it out, regardless of it's looks or conformation.

I look forward to hearing how you get on.

Just a word of advice - if you do plan to travel to see this horse then get them to measure him before you go..... his ad says 15hh/15.2hh (not measured). He looks nearer 15hh to me and you might be annoyed to find him so small after a long drive.....

Agreed. There is no need to be so downright rude - going through a bad time is by no means an excuse for jumping down people's throats and being generally unpleasant.

FWIW I think you are right about not posting direct links/photos of adverts - if I were a seller I would be absolutely livid to find comments that were less than favourable about a horse I was trying to sell. That is in no way directed at Chocolate Log as an individual, but more at us all here as a whole - I think it is something that needs addressing here, as we see a lot of examples of it occurring!

FWIW I took your comment about NOT commenting "because I got told of last time" (or words to that effect) as a petty jibe regarding a post made AGES ago. There is a difference between making comments on a horse a member is going to view and openly slagging off someone's horse.

Chloe, he's a pretty little thing and I think *personally* that's the attractive point of him. He WILL grow a little, but I would suspect he'd need to bulk out more too.
Hope the viewing went / goes okay.

I don't remember ever openly slagging off someone elses horse, do you have a link to the thread where I did that?

The incident I was referring to was a piebald cob that was up for sale, I point out the confirmation faults and said people would be mad to buy it as it would go lame very soon with the hocks it had. As far as I was aware at the time the person was looking to buy the horse, it transpired a few post later that the posters friend had previously owned it and sold it as it was chronically lame.
I got told off for saying it had bad hocks, back, shoulder etc as it was defammatory, I can't even rememeber who told me off but I took it on board and have never done it since. I just don't see how that was being petty, I was making my point that I didn't think people should be confo critqueing a horse without the owners permission, what other users choose to do is their own business.

I wouldnt remember, you were the one who went on about the post ages ago. as far as I'm aware I never even read it so how can I be accusing you of openly slagging it off? I just said there was a difference, IMO.

CL, i am really very sorry to hear that you are having your horse put to sleep, it must be very hard for you.
All i can say is don't start looking straight away as you may be on the rebound.
having said that, i think he looks nice, not the best conformation in the world but it all depends on what you want to do with him.
He looks a little immature at the moment but my pure bred arab at 4 was 15.1 and is now 16hh at 5.
I think he may chunk out a bit being a DWB and I think his colour is striking.
Good luck if you go to see him, I hope you find what you are looking for. x

I'm with Silver on this one....I don't think it's necessarily a good idea to post pictures of someone elses horse & ask for conformation critiques.

I will say that I don't think he's going to be big enough for you, & recent experiences in the horse buying fields has taught me that if you want a 16.2 don't go & look at anything advertised at less than 17hh. However if what you're looking for is a 16 hander then your safest bet is to go & look at anything advertised as being 16.2......

Apologies, I read THIS specific sentence as you referring to me making a jibe at you - and others - regarding a post that YOU remembered. Clearly I was wrong in thinking that you had been one of the users that 'told me off' for slagging off the confirmation of a horse for sale.

I still like him - very much
grin.gif
Even when he turns grey he will still be handsome. Being only four and a Dutch Warmblood he will mature.
It is only my opinion but i think others peoples views do matter. I would be blinded by ' I love this horse' where as someone else not looking to buy him would see him differently.
I don't think anyone has been nasty about the horse but honestly saying what they see. Pictures are always awful - i find always show the animal worse than it is. We took some of one of ours at the weekend and the legs don't look like his. One looks fat and one very thin. We also took a pic of a dog and its legs feet look realy strange. So much so i checked them and they are normal.
A good thing about photo's is the horse nearly always looks far better in the flesh.
I did say the horses bum looked small to me. In real life it may well have a whopping great huge bum.

I do like the confirmation things as it open's my eyes but there are ways of saying it.

My lord you lot don't half drivel on and drag things out that are trivial. how about we get back to topic and perhaps can move on from your PM discussion, who's rude and who's not, "i dont comment on horses for sale" whatever saga. (silverspring if you didnt want to comment on the OP's topic bcos 'it gets you in trouble' perhaps wouldve been better not to post at all then the upset wouldve been avoided)

OP - sorry to hear about your pony/horse that is/has been PTS.

The horse is the pics... like is colour - pretty. like its height as im into smaller ones but if your looking for something 15.2+ might be a bit small perhaps. looks little. looks a bit weak rump wise. and not got a lot going for it upfront either. However, its young. It depends really what sort of money your paying for it, if your not paying a great deal and looking for a project to build up, work on and really transform then could be a good one for you. However just consider his conformation carefully as you dont want him to 'break' or be prone to problems. Talk it over with the vet that vets him if your there or maybe call them if you can?
at the end of the day if its meant to be , its meant to be.

Lol you replied to the wrong person, poor Silevr_Floring will be offend you accused her of 'drivelling'. Assuming you made a boo boo and actually meant to reply to me and my 'drivelling' on, I could 'drivel' all day, I quite like a little debate and it seems chocolate log and I have resolved our disagreement
smile.gif
would you like some more 'drivel' or are you quite done with your comments?
