I have just returned from a lesson at Celaeron - having a catch up gossip with Kelly she told me about a horrific story that happened at the weekend. Someone turned up for the show on Sunday - opened their trailer and screamed for help. Their horse had gone through the floor at the back - they had heard a bang about a mile from the centre but on checking in the mirrors saw the horse stood with ears pricked looking quite happy. They then drove on. The damage was her fetlocks had ben dragged along the road - the vet arrived within minutes and the horse was then cleaned, bandaged up medicated and taken to a bigger veterinary centre. Unfortunately once there and x-rayed there was to much grit and muck actually in both hind fetlock joints so made it impossible to save her.

My trailer floor was replaced about 4 mths ago so I know it's ok although I have been and checked. Please, please, please spend 5 minutes this weekend and have a poke round with a screwdriver to check your floors. I only share this story in the hope that another animal does not have to go through that pain and suffering for 5 minutes spared.

I was once following a trailer when this happenned, all of a sudden there were bits of wood flying out from the trailer, I blasted my horn until they stopped. They didn't go far but the front of the horses fetlocks were scuffed away to the bone. Luckily I had a first aid kit so we covered up the wounds and they called for a vet. I don't know what happened to the horse.

this is why i will ony have an aluminium floor - which i et checked every year when i get my trailer serviced.
i would just not risk a wooden floor -not worth it IMHO

OMG that is terrible, i havnt heard anything about it, but poor poor horse. It amazes me that the owners didnt check when they heard the bang though, im quite paranoid about something happening to ours & always stop of we hear anything odd, we are actually going to fit CCTV in our trailer when we get some spear cash, you cant put a price on peace of mind.
