I have just returned from a lesson at Celaeron - having a catch up gossip with Kelly she told me about a horrific story that happened at the weekend. Someone turned up for the show on Sunday - opened their trailer and screamed for help. Their horse had gone through the floor at the back - they had heard a bang about a mile from the centre but on checking in the mirrors saw the horse stood with ears pricked looking quite happy. They then drove on. The damage was her fetlocks had ben dragged along the road - the vet arrived within minutes and the horse was then cleaned, bandaged up medicated and taken to a bigger veterinary centre. Unfortunately once there and x-rayed there was to much grit and muck actually in both hind fetlock joints so made it impossible to save her.
My trailer floor was replaced about 4 mths ago so I know it's ok although I have been and checked. Please, please, please spend 5 minutes this weekend and have a poke round with a screwdriver to check your floors. I only share this story in the hope that another animal does not have to go through that pain and suffering for 5 minutes spared.
