Please could you be knid enough to answer four questions :D

1) Do you know how much your horse weighs? 480kg roughly

2) Do you feed per scoop or by weight? Scoop

3) Do you feed the amount that it recommends on the bag? No

4) Do you weigh your hay / haylage? No

1) Do you know how much your horse weighs?

Not to the exact kilo, but nevertheless my previous 'bets' when checked by weighing bridge have not been far of the mark.
There are means of working out an approximation of your horse's weight by measuring his girth etc. Would have to check to find the formula.

2) Do you feed per scoop or by weight?

I have a CUP and a JUG that I use to measure out the feed. Cup is approx. 135 gr and Jug is approx. 750 gr. Depending on what the horse is doing, it's age and condition they get either feed measured out by the cup or jug.

3) Do you feed the amount that it recommends on the bag?

Never! I would be rolling my lot in the stable if I fed what was recommended on the bag!

4) Do you weigh your hay / haylage?

Here to I have (for me) a tried and tested measure: an old hay bag. This 'bag' gets filled with hay depending (again) on the horse: half full, 3/4 or full. Full bag weighs approx 6 kg when really filled to the limit.

1) Do you know how much your horse weighs? Nope

2) Do you feed per scoop or by weight? Scoop

3) Do you feed the amount that it recommends on the bag? Doubt it

4) Do you weigh your hay / haylage? Nope. Hay thrown out in field in winter. For the two in at night they get fed by slice numbers/size!

1) Do you know how much your horse weighs?
Weightape weekly, so can tell if he has gained/lost although think it underestimates his real weight

2) Do you feed per scoop or by weight?
Hmm. By scoop, but I measure 'new' feeds so I know how much each scoop weighs

3) Do you feed the amount that it recommends on the bag?
Yes for balancer, less for hard feed (if I am feeding hard feed, which I often don't as I prefer forage only diets)

4) Do you weigh your hay / haylage?
Yes

1) Do you know how much your horse weighs?

yes, bi monthly trip to weightbridge

2) Do you feed per scoop or by weight?

By weight.

3) Do you feed the amount that it recommends on the bag?

no, feed acording to the nutritionists advice from vets.

4) Do you weigh your hay / haylage?

Yes.

i also rinse out feed bowls daily & take them all home & put them through dishwasher monthly.
hope that helps.

1) Do you know how much your horse weighs?
I use a weight tape

2) Do you feed per scoop or by weight?
I work out the weight but learn what the weight is in scoops (i don't get the scales out at each meal lol)

3) Do you feed the amount that it recommends on the bag?
Not generally, I talk with nutritionists often (feed company's give free advice all day long and you can even have them come out and meet with you and the horses and give advice. seems a bit namby pamby but its fascinating and invaluable talking to the nutritionists who create the feeds!

4) Do you weigh your hay / haylage
I have done and know the math so weigh it in my arms!

1) Do you know how much your horse weighs?

Yes, I weigh all of them regularly to spot weight changes

2) Do you feed per scoop or by weight?

weight, but I do weigh a scoops worth of food so can feed by scoop rather than weigh feed every day.

3) Do you feed the amount that it recommends on the bag?

Lower end of recommendation as my horses are all native/native x and the higher end of recommendations would make my ponies explode!

4) Do you weigh your hay / haylage?

Yes, every day!

Is worth mentioning that I have good doers & am an equine science graduate so that is why am so pernickity about weighing feed!!:D

1) Do you know how much your horse weighs?
Haven't used a weigh tape, but would estimate around 500kg based on size and build.

2) Do you feed per scoop or by weight?
By scoop. But he eats Calm and condition at the moment and the instructions on the bag tell you how much to feed in Stubbs scoops (which is what I have).

3) Do you feed the amount that it recommends on the bag?
Start off by feeding the recommended amount if I feed something new, but then adjust up and down based on condition/behaviour.

4) Do you weigh your hay / haylage?
Yes, always (hay).

Yes, all three of them are pediodically weighed by D&H tape

By mug, handful or part of a scoop - never weighed

Well under, all of mine are very good doers

No, they live out, and when in the depths of winter they have round bale hay/haylage.

2) Do you feed per scoop or by weight?

4) Do you weigh your hay / haylage?

Do you know how much your horse weighs? Had a horse on a weighbridge last year, 720kg. Told my vet on a visit shortly afterwards, and just out of interest he tried his weigh-tape and it calculated him to be 620kg. He then used a different weight calculator where you measure girth, lenght of horse etc and that calculated him to be 630kg, so I would NEVER trust a weigh-tape.

1) Do you know how much your horse weighs?

I look after seven (two are mine). I guess their weight and am probably accurate to around 50 kg

2) Do you feed per scoop or by weight?
Scoops but each new feed a weigh I scoop so know what weight I am feeding too.

3) Do you feed the amount that it recommends on the bag?
No. I feed according to condition and energy.

4) Do you weigh your hay / haylage?
No, but I know how much each horse averages per day and it's about 50% more than the guidelines. Greedy buggers.

1) Do you know how much your horse weighs?
I use a weightape so I have a rough idea.

2) Do you feed per scoop or by weight?
I look at how much it says on bag I should feed, and then look at how much a scoop weighs, and work it out from there...

3) Do you feed the amount that it recommends on the bag?
If not on very good grass then yes, if I'm trying to get him to gain condition say throughout the winter months etc. However when enough grazing I just give him whatever he'll eat (fussy Tb!).

4) Do you weigh your hay / haylage?
Nope! He lives out 24/7 so normally doesn't have any, but when he does I give him as much as I think he needs.

Hi, I am just finishing a nutritional course and wondered if any of you would be kind enough to answer a few questions for me :)

1) Do you know how much your horse weighs? I weighed her regularly when she was changing shape, but I'm happy with her shape now and haven't weighed her for ages. So no, not at the mo.

2) Do you feed per scoop or by weight? By cup and scoop

3) Do you feed the amount that it recommends on the bag? She's on straights, so no bag recommendations.

4) Do you weigh your hay / haylage? Yes, but only because my yard is moving onto charging for hay by weight. Other than that, I feed sufficient for her to have a little left in the morning.

Many many thanks in advance for everyone's help :):)

1. Yes - by weightape so may not be accurate.

2. Feed by weight.

3. No - use as a guide but feed to suit the individual.

4. Yes.

1) Do you know how much your horse weighs?
Yes, Regularly use the weigh tape on them.

2) Do you feed per scoop or by weight?
Filled the scoop then weighed what it held so I know how much a scoop holds of different feeds. (You'd be surprised how much it varies!)

3) Do you feed the amount that it recommends on the bag?
Absolutely not!

4) Do you weigh your hay / haylage? Filled them and weighed them and occassionally still weigh them to check.
