Please critique this horse as a potential County level lightweight? All feedback gratefully recieved.

Lightweight cob? He looks quite leggy but is really nice stamp and good conf. Needs loads of muscle and top. Really like his head. In this pic he looks like he isnt quite a cob yet. How big is he?

He looks like he could have a really beautiful neck on him with more topline. The front feet look slightly odd- pidgeon toed or is he standing funny? I know nothing about showing, you can probably tell!

A lot to like about him and looks to have presence to burn, that 'look at me' factor which is necessary whatever class you're in.
Obviously, needs more condition and muscle, but without seeing him move we can't tell exactly but as a model, he's not half bad! Would be better to have a proper side on and front on pic''s if you really want us to pick holes!
Riding horse or hunter?

Looks like he would make a nice hunter, he does look pigeon toed in picture, and a bit upright through the shoulder, and short neck (is is head turned to camera).

Get some muscle on him and I rather like him!

I like! I don't know hunters though, natives and cobs are my thing and its definately not a cob type. First thought was a bit long in the back, but on closer inspection I think its the way he is holding his head and neck.

I'd love to see him move!

He is a 17.1 hand warmblood! Def not a cob!!! Looking at doing lightweight hunters as i don't think he is light enough for a RH, but comments in regards to this area would be appreciated.

I promise that he is no pigeon toed - will do some front shots for you all. Must be how he is stood up.

Have only had him a few weeks and he has only been back in work 2 weeks. As i say, all feedback is welcome.

He is a lovely stamp of a horse.
I work for someone who does LW hunters at county level and I think he would do very well in a class. He is tall enough to stand out and is a very flashy looking man. I think you will do quite well with him, where abouts in the country are you based?

He is lovely defo a hunter type and could do riding horse, you will do well with him, looks a lovely stamp of horse.
I am going to come and steal him

I know she didnt state lightweight cob or hunter but I didnt know how tall he was and since Def not enough blood (quality) for lightweight SH for county then to me he looks more like a cob without top and muscle to me with those legs and feet.. Nice looking head and neck..

defo LW potential - how much bone does he have?

he could possibly make it into MW

he is lovely - he looks just like the grown up version of my old pony

how does he move?

how can you say horse isnt of enough quality to do LW?!?

i compete at county level LW/RH and the grey would fit in easily!! A LW is meant to be a hunter who could carry you around all day and i think he is very nice for the job!

and how does he look like a cob

cobs are stocky?

ah well, difference of opinons

We can all compete at county level but are you successful? I have 2 SH. One isnt quite upto the mark and doesnt do too well. The other is a real blood type horse with bone and substance and is very true to SH hunter type. I would much prefer to do a days hard hunting on the less true to type horse. I wouldnt look twice at the grey for a county showhunter, not enough tb blood.

Hi FrecklesMum,
I think he's lovely!

No horse is perfect, but if you really want me to criticise a lovely horse, he could be a bit back at knee, and a bit straight in his hocks? (Can't see the pigeontoe thing other friends have seen, but maybe their eyes are younger than mine!)

Please don't get me wrong - i'm nit-picking in my criticism, and think you have one lovely horse, and from his face, a lovely, kind friend, who i hope you will love for himself. If he doesn't make it in showing for you, i'll have him! He looks the sort who can turn his mind to anything, and as i said, he's lovely!

Good luck with him, and all best wishes, BS x

PS: Bet he'd turn his hand to WH in a great way!

yes i am successful - we have won a few championships and been placed highly. my horse is an inbetween RH and LW - but has won champs in both classes. but even if i wasnt successful dosent mean i am not worthy of an opinion!!

that horse is most certainly not a cob, and fits a LW sterotype well imo - and will do well when muscle is built up and has more topline

i actually find it quite rude to tell someone else that their horse has no quality!

Thank you all for your feedback - it has been useful to have a different set of eyes look at the horse. The general consensus seems to be nice but needs more muscle.

I only bought the horse a few weeks ago and he is 2 weeks back in work now - so hopefully by the begining of next season (approx 4 months) he will have developed up some more - will keep you all up dated!

I think it is a super looking horse with that special look at me quality which you need along with the right movement. Sometimes the only way to find the right class is to enter them and see what the reaction is from the judges. My daughter used to ride a grey in the small hunters and although it was hard work turning her out well she did always stand out. So good luck and much enjoyment, I am quite jealous!

I have a friend who has won the Great Yorkshire show with his LW hunter - who was much heavier than yours.

So once he's muscled up, and got that fleshy show horse look (haha) he will be stunning, and a definate LW.

Eventer - If anything the horse is underweight for LW.
