Sorry if this is a silly question.

When someone refers to a “top track pony” or “top track competition” what exactly does it mean? Is it simply the highest level(s) of competition? If so which levels, where is a cut off point? Is there a series of competitions called “Top Track”? Is there even a solid definition or is it the same as saying “high level” with “high” being a bit subjective?

BS states for home pony which is pretty much top drawer jumping. It also tells you heights they should be doing by height and rider age.

Then there is proper top level which will be the 148s which are European contenders so jumping 1.30m.

Anything which qualified for the champs etc HOYS, RIHS

Tbh it’s a pretty wide definition, a bit like the word potential. It will depend on what the pony is actually doing.

I take a top track pony as one who is able to jump the largest tracks that size of pony would be asked to do - so if the national champs or any international comps are at 1.30 for a 148, thats what a top track 148 needs to jump.

Thanks for the link. Lots of information. Is it more a prestige thing than a level? Doesn’t hoys have novice champs? Or do they not count?
