A workmanlike head, which must be honest in appearance, a bold eye, and the head must be in proportion to the body.
The neck should be well set on with a definite crest. A sloping shoulder, where an upright shoulder will lead to a short action.
The body should be square i.e. you can put a box around it and the back should be short and the ribs well sprung.
The quarters round and peachy and the tail well set on.
Short cannon bones, which should be sufficient to support their short compact bodies. Good flat knees. Hocks clean and no signs of coarseness.
Just read this in the bspa booklet on cobs:
Beware of fat animals with insufficient bone masquerading as show cobs.

My boy ticks all the boxes for being a cob, but i know that his mum was a standardbred (no idea what his dad was) does this mean he can still be classed as a cob?

Here he is, he has still muscled up a little more since these pics as he was only 4 years and 3 months old. He isn't too fat either, i do try and keep the weight off him!!! And yes that is a crazy hot air balloon coming down in the field behind him and he hardly battered an eyelid (as long as i kept his attention on me!!!)
