Please do not feed...............

Ok, naive.

However, it's a salutory lesson. It bothers me hugely that passers by feed our horses and when challenged either say 'Well, it saves you feeding him' :eek: or 'What can I feed him if you don't want him having 50 kg of carrots a day?' Headdesk! :mad: They've ripped down the polite signs that ask them not to feed the horses. They don't see anything wrong with coming into the field with pushchairs and feeding a bunch of feisty mares, until the mares start kicking the crap out of each other or one bites the hand that feeds. :rolleyes: Drives me nuts. I've never had passers by lean over the garden wall to feed my dogs!
 
I'm not sure I'd say just naive tbh. I used stupid as the opposite of clever. I think as a parent, there's a duty to keep your children from harm. Regardless of whether you understand that horses can nip for treats I would have thought the sheer size makes it a good idea not to put a toddler near an unattended animal you don't know. But think she's more than learned her lesson.
 
That's one hell of a bruise on the kid's chest. Sadly people who would not allow their child to touch a strange dog seem to think all horses are all seaside donkeys! I had an incident years ago when a chap climbed TWO fences to put his 3 year old kid on the back of a loose horse. The horse flung the kid and booted it on the way down, fortunately the kid was not seriously hurt, just terified out of it's wits! Chaps defense in court, 'what are ponies for then', needless to say he got nowhere with his claim.
