I feel a bit of a numptie but please don't laugh! :o
Captain has always been on high quality hard feed giving him all the supplements he needs; now though he is off hard food, only on chaff, beet, succulents and his supplements, Coligone, garlic and Relax Me. I have read people giving haylage balancer for horses just on haylage. Please could someone tell me what it is, what it contains and what it is used for.

I must be a numptie too as have never heard of such a thing. To be honest im a bit sceptible about the whole thing, a haylage balancer, why would a horse need that, just sounds like another market ploy for expense to winter feeding.
 
Hello hello, never a numpty question!

Basically its a feed with minerals and vits in it that, according to my feed supplier, basically replaces what hay/haylage loses compared to grass and also gives them a bit more to keep them looking great and being healthy when they're in over the winter. Its just a bit of an allrounder really!
 
Are nyou talking about the NAF Haylage Balancer? It's specifically for if you feed haylage. Haylage is more acidic than hay and it can lead to gastric ulcers if alot is fed. The haylage balancer basically helps to balance this and keeps their tummy healthy and happy :D

Sounds like i should start him on it as he has an acidy tum.

Well you learn something new everyday, use to have my mare on haylage and she hated it, fed her per instructions and she started chewing wood which she had never done before, so started feed her more, which then made her very loose, so went back to hay and she's lovey jubley.:):):)
 
No worries. I expect Naf have got info about if on their website and they are very good on the phones if you wanted to talk to them about it. I know someone on and and horse has stopped cribbing since she started using it

lol op wasnt a numpty question as i never heard of it either but there again im good old fashioned hay feeder he he he eh so I have learnt tonight so thank you for your question x
