Please don't watch if easily upset

Yes, he did. The foal was going to be attacked by something else at some time, as he was far too long obviously unable to rise.

Wow that was truely shocking

I have never seen anything like that before

I suppose it is weeding out the bad genes

Jeeze i was not expecting that. Poor baby. At least it looked relatively quick.

I don't think it's that rare for stallions in the wild to kill other stallions foals, and sometimes even their own.

uuuuhhhh that was HORRIBLE!!!!

At least if it had been caught by another animal it probably would have been killed outright, by the looks of the way that stallion picked him up, it must have been very painful as well as traumatic!

Upsetting, but the stallion did not plough right in, he examined it, and then for whatever reason, decided that the foal was not viable.

Unfourtuanatly they dont have vets in the wild, TBH, feel more sorry for the mare that she lost her foal

Have seen that video before, it's not pleasant.

I'm sure the stallion is doing the foal a 'favour' although it probably didn't intend to. It'd be interesting to know whether the foal was sired by the stallion or not. If not it's a case of infanticide to remove any offspring competing with his own.

I really wasn't expecting that. Although hard to watch and I won't be able to watch it a second time did find it quite amazing how the stallion knew it wasn't his and thought he must go!

It's amazing what happens in the wild. Unfortunately there are domestic horses which shouldn't carry on a traumatic and painful existence and the stallion did what was needed.

Actually not shocked, horses often attack those who are down in herd situations if they feel threatened. Its just instinct, stallion prob saw his mares were worried and saw this as a direct threat to the herd. They also do this to old or infirm horses as realise they will slow the group down. After seeing a very old pony attacked when it went down in the field by a load of healthy geldings this is why I will not turn out older/unsound horses with those who are fit and well.

I can't watch it as I'm at work but it's common for prey animals to attack weaker members of the herd as peditors are attracted to a easy targets.
They therefore have to be driven out or killed as the others don't want preditors to be attracted to the herd.

Ty gets picked on quite alot by dominant mares and geldings for the same reason - he's blind in one eye and has mild spavins - he'd be dead if he lived in the wild!

It's not nice, but it just goes to show what truely clever animals horses actually are. I do wonder if our domestication of them has driven out some of these instincts....probably a good thing with regards that we keep them for pleasure but I do believe some people really underestimate the inteligence of horses.

I should think it was extremely fast, think terrier shaking a rat. A whole lot better than starving to death or coyotes or a cat getting it (presuming this was the US)

I have seen this in domesticated horses. Thankfully it didn't end that way, if the victim had been a foal rather than a yearling he would have been killed in seconds, as it was I have absolutely no doubt it would have been killed if people hadn't been there to beat off the attacking horse.
