I'll try to cut a long story short.

I got a pony on loan last November but it didn't work out, the woman who owned him bought him from the sales with an unaligned pelvis, she did get this sorted but when I had him he became lame in his back/pelvis and back legs he was obviously in a lot of discomfort when being ridden and after a lot of money was spent we decided he shouldn't be ridden anymore. I should also mention that when I had him he certainly wasn't a novice ride, bucked, bolted and was very bossy on the ground.

This woman recently advertised him as a companion pony and was sold to somebody last week as a companion, which is great after this poor thing has been passed around then gone through sales. It was nice he's found somewhere to live out the rest of his time.

Now with the problem, this person who has bought the pony as a companion has readvertised this poor little man as a NOVICE RIDE, 100% in every way, jumped affiliated, has height certificate at 140cm very safe and sensible.

Hopefully you're as shocked as me? and can give me some advice on what to do?? i'm very shocked, I have emailed the person advertising him to find out some more info (lies) and to make sure it was him, which it is.
HELP

Yes shocked but sorry not surprised, I keep hearing about this, 'companion horses sold or given away' to only be re-sold for more money as riding horses!! If you can gain proof, preferably from the previous owner with photo of said pony, then contact trading standards with a copy of the advert and preferably photos of the pony from the people selling, also if a vet report can be obtained detailing the problems pony has then this will be evidence.

God, that is awful. I hate people who do things like this. Buy a pony cheap as a companion and make a tidy profit by selling as a ridden pony. Makes my blood boil. I'm not really sure what you can do about it tho. Maybe report it to RSPCA or someone like that? Don't know if they'll do anyhting tho

I'm afraid, as sad as it is, you can't do much at all.
They own the pony and they advertise it, it's between them, the potential purchasers and (hopefully) the vet who performs the vetting.

This wont be a popular answer but this story illustrates why I am infavour of PTS at home any horse with issues/problems like this, if the horse cannot stay as an unridden pet in the home where the problem was discovered.

They can't have fixed it, I only had him last November and in the email they have sent me they told be that he's been to local shows jumping and winning a lot, obviously lies.
I kind of know there's not much i can do i'm just so sad/angry/can not believe how awful some people are! I thought about telling the RSPCA but I doubt they'd do anything.

It really isn't a welfare issue as such, what will happen is someone naive enough will buy then have a unrideable pony, therefore no welfare implication but a huge financial one to the purchaser, therefore it is more of a trading standards issue.

I agree with this. There are worse things then death for a horse or pony like this poor guy who is being passed pillar to post and probably in a lot of pain.

I also agree, if he was mine in the beginning it would be a different story.
I just don't want this person to get away with it or this poor pony to be passed on again and again.

The lady who gave the pony away as a companion is probably the person who can prove that lies are being told. Maybe you should let her know. That would take courage on your part as you may end up the "bad person" but bar buying the pony and having it PTS yourself there is not much you can do really. Plus I am not sure what the lady who sold her as a companion could do except alert trading standards and hope this is not the first time and they have other complaints. Even so i dont think they will do much tbh. It probably should still be reported by the lady who sold the pony a week ago.

I dont think there is a lot you personally can prove tbh as you had the pony 3 months ago.

It is so sad that this happens as it makes people afraid to loan, yet there are people who genuinely need companions who dont need to be ridden. I have a friend who took on an elderly pony as a companion and kept it till it died. (He outlived her pony so she had to buy another as a companion to the companion!). So not all elderly or unrideable horses should be pts but rehoming should not be done by advertising. That seems to be when the sharks arrive.
