My small mare lost her foal very dramatically this morning and as she has milk and the colostrium at the moment (allthough i will harvest some later) i am seeking a orphan who needs a foster mare, pref to come to us so we can keep our little mare with us, she is a brilliant mum! we are based in somerset but will travel to collect to pretty much anywhere! please help!

I would also put this into the Breeding forum as well as here to get the maximum number of hits and look up the mare and foal bank if you haven't already done so (someone in breeding will know all the details).

Sorry to hear about your foal, and hope you find a foster foal for your mare.

Please post this on breeding and also have you contacted the national foaling bank. Please do so and I am so sorry for your loss :-(

Perhaps a happy outcome could happen still from this terrible tragedy.

Please keep us updated - thinking of you and your mare.

Hi, thanks for replys so far, i have spoke to the foal bank and other foal organisations with no luck at the moment, i am not a member of some of the websites mentioned so cannot post but if anyone would like to do so on my behalf would be great! my contact details are.. 07856197135 kcoop86@hotmail.com. thankyou everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As well as the Foaling bank, Fosterfoal on Facebook also seems to have some succes.

I know there's a lady in fife desperate for a foster mare, but she wants the mare to come to her- if you're interested I'll find her details. I'm pretty sure she's on this forum too.

Good luck, I hope you're successful

i have checked out the fosterfoal on facebook, brilliant idea! i have left a post and hopefully will have a sucess story soon !

Sorry to hear this and glad you are trying to foster but please remember that most people need the mare to go to the foal rather than the other way around, not because they are being awkward but it is their foal which needs the help and in many cases are too weak to travel; another reason is it wouldn't be immune to your bacteria which could cause more problems for it. I know I wouldn't let my foal go to someone else at the age a foster mare was a better proposition (a fortnight or younger) as any older and it's a simple matter of bucket feeding anyway which can be done easily (if tiring) at home.

Im sorry to hear your sad news.
I was in a similar situation to you,and my mare went away to a large stud to foster a foal.....stupidly i never drew up a loan contract, and thing went wrong.....please,please,please make sure you draw up a loan contract

Hi everyone, sorry for the long wait for an update its been hectic! we found an orphan foal and collected yesterday morning, he was taken into a rescue centre after being found by walkers abandoned on welsh hills (search party did go out for the mare first!) the rescue centre did a fantastic job bringing the little colt from near death (he was found shortly after birth!) he is now 2 weeks old and adorable! i have to ring the foal bank later for advice as after following everything they said the mare is about ready to take him now, but unfortunatly as he has never fed from a mare before and only had human contact and bottles he doesnt want the mare! even trys to attack her! yeh hard to believe for a 2 week old baby! but he is a complete cheeky little monkey! i will update again soon!
